That´s exactly what I have the right to do..... He asked for opinions and I replied very solid... if this thread was done under the category HUMOR or like and not EDUCATION it would have been quite another story, but unfortunately it isn´t.

You came up with the nick FOSTER, not me.... and why is that wasgedn?

I don´t see things gets more and more limited here at all - the opposite!!

The problem is (too often) that whats dominates with regard to threads here most of all resembles to what we see on FB, Twitter etc. In other words: It´s very often not based on creating a real debate on something important but in order to create interest in one's own person . The focus disappears, the meaning of it all dilutes and everything becomes indifferent, and that´s really sad!

About Talmi and others: People comes and goes of many reasons here and there´s very little you can do about it. Some just vanish in silence and others makes a drama out of it. Some are missed and others not - That´s life!

I think we should get this thread back on track. Everyone is entitle to his or her opinion. If anyone think it is worthy to respond to the OP or another post herein, do so respectfully. If anyone does not like the OP for whatever reason, move on to another thread. The question asked by the OP is a valid one.

wow. That's a sly move; putting the thread in 'Education'!
    I hadn't noticed that.
Well, if I'm being educated, all I learnt was exactly what @phloopy has written above!
Which is one of the reasons I left FB years ago.

I just recalled; when I discovered Pianoteq years ago, I posted about it on FB...
I was like "this is it!"...
    ...Tumbleweeds and crickets/grasshopper sounds...
...because I wasn't posting about what I'm eating, where I'm holidaying, or how great I am!

So I'm here with y'all now.
    U my fam!

Rules, Tradition, Heritage, Ceremony, Establishments, etc. don't let people change. When they don't change, start to defend sth and the struggles begin. Unfortunately people are just nonentity and small fry against the power of those establishments. :)

It is ok brother. I respect everyone's point of view on this thread. Everyone seems to have a good reason for replying as they did. I just think every thread should stay on topic.

    Agreed!
Truth is, though, that change is the only constant.
People can flow when that is known.

Classical instruments have such a wide range of tonal options and can cover the entire emotional spectrum. they have still barely captured any aspects making each library a work of art. Just getting a simple legato seems Difficult since most still sound bad. I could probably live without guitars before losing strings...

That's not a good comparison though mate, how many times has his voice been used on tracks, and how many times have violins etc been used on tracks.
Also, he didn't say the sounds or instruments are great, your comparison is suggesting he said something like...
Orchestral instruments are great , but what's the point of hearing them again and again.

"Not talking about the scores", meaning not talking about the writing of the music, or technical aspect of notes, arrangement etc, but the sounds used to play those parts.

Orchestral scores are so deep etc, he means the written music, he is praising the musical talent of the compositions, but...
"their sounds are getting boring and repetitive after listening a bit to them."

So basically that is what he means, he's heard violins, brass etc so many times and finds their sound boring and repetitive, I'm not agreeing with it though, I'm just clarifying what he means, I like orchestral music and the sounds of the instruments, and for example, if John Williams used synth sounds for the Star Wars music, sure, it would still be good, many great soundtracks have been done with synths, but I doubt it would have anywhere near the impact of the Orchestra.

My guess is he is suggesting soft synths could be used instead of orchestral instruments, and I just gave my answer to that above.

So once again, he has done nothing wrong here, he hasn't offended anyone or any group of people, like European's suck at pop, or Pigmies suck at basketball etc.....he made a couple of fair statements and asked a question.:wink:

Are we talking about orchestral music, (maybe scores, orchestration?) or criticizing prevailing ideologies, values and norms from society?

Barking up the wrong tree... AGAIN?!?!

Music needs no defining. It is all expression and trying to fit it in a box will only limit your capabilities.

Because if I listen to anything else in the house my parents will ground me, or force me to sleep in a tent out front. Weather notwithstanding.

Hmmm. The latter? "values and norms" etc? Coz I think @Calm.Down is directly referring to his initial question and observation, really. It seems to make sense.
    But I may be wrong?

What Calm.Down is doing, as always, is to say that the music related to mass media is low brow (in this case, the industry of orchestral samples, with lifeless, boring and "old sounds"). There is always an implicit criticism against musical practices, tastes, and habits of the majority, defending the practice of something that I define as "boring novelty" (considering the techniques applied in his own music).

For me, this criticism is at the heart of all crap that avant garde has caused: in the face of the lack of interest due to music that doesn't generate synergy in other humans, academic composers (or new music aficionados) begin to question (whatever they may be) the widespread taste in the main stream culture for fear of disappearance.

These people don't understand that this search for what I call boring novelty does not match the yearnings of the great majority of music listeners or even musicians, who, in fact, do not give a damn about distal hi-brow abstractions (removed from the context in which we live).

    Just like that!

But I confess that I have so much fun seeing how you guys react to this guy who insists on fighting against Quixotic windmills!

    @wasgedn
Im afraid we´re living on two different planets regarding how a discussion should develop - and that´s ok!

-I dont feel accosted in any way
-Read you replies/messages a little deeper
-Do it yourself if this issue really matters for you - Im not your secretary ;-)
-Im not talking about Talmi in person but in general terms
-Glad you say this, and once again: I dont feel accosted.... not even offended ;-)

    Accipere quam facere praestat injuriam!

    Cheers

It's relatively close, most tenors stick 90% of the time to few pieces. And I picked a veteran one just because of that. Many people enjoy his same voice with his same favorite pieces.

Saying that scores are great (which can be applied to any composition) doesn't add anything. It's not even common sense, it's a fact. Call me picky if you want

The answer is "because they sound great". It's as trivial as that.
Many synths sound great, that's equally trivial, but he didn't mention that. He adds the reason probably is that the masses are ignorant.
He leaves this combo of provocation and nonsense in order to us to argue between each other trying to attack/defend what "he could probably mean", "my guess",...

At this point it's a fact he's foster with yet another account. He's already provoking a user he stalked in the past. I have no grudge against him, I'm just stating the obvious for every member that knows him and, more importantly, informing the new ones.

Already four pages of comments and counting... Well done @Calm.Down!
