Why are brass & woodwind VSTs so ..challenged? (aka do you know a small&good one?))

Discussion in 'Software' started by LordBiff, Aug 2, 2022.

?

do you agree?

  1. i love 200gb libraries of unplayable boring sounds

  2. i love it even more i want 600gb libraries of different mic positions on every 30s attack crescendo

synthesis is no option and leaves you with sampling it and even that seems to be very complicated and therefore ends in these huge libraries.

I guess if its sampled alright, you might be good with 50GB, but this depends a lot what kinds of samples you are after and how to perform them.

i feel like this is similar to a saxophone, althought for basic stuff swar plugs things might works in that terms, but if you need detail, you arent even close with them and would need to rely on sampled ones, but then again with phrases.

alright if im so cringe lets hear it show me your music,
where you utilize this 200gb orchestra stuff. lets hear it.
since im the big exception right? who doesnt compose symphonies in 2022. everybody else out there directing virtual orchestras.
show me anything impressive you made with a orchestra brass patch ever in your life, big guy
this will be good, and if you do, ey il eat my words i give it up. im just real curious

i understand there is use for libraries that try to behave exactly like the real instrument. but there is also a use for simple patches that are ready to go and basically, dont need much tweeking. just btw what im talking about is exactly what you would find on €3000 keyboards so its kinda funny that anybody would act like thats such an odd request.

if they had the exact soundlibrary of one of those keyboards as vst, it would be a staple in music production and one of the most essential plugins..

    __
to everybody else thank you for the suggestions i will look through that stuff today

yes im a little more happy thank you
i know the orchestra stuff has tons of seeds, and i dont know about you, but i listen to alot of dudes who record music at home for fun, home producers.. discord community people who look for feedback and stuff. meaning THE ACTUAL USERS of all this vst stuff,
and nobody i ever saw makes OSTs ..
thats something a guy tries for 2 days and goes back to making whatever he really listens to ^^

where are all these amazing orchestra peaces all the users who seed these torrents upload ?
or where is there normal music that seriously recreates super realistic brass and stuff ?
where is all this mysterious music for real
all i see is god damn edm, trap, and other electronic music
am i really missing that much out there ?
i dont think i ever heard a single track in my life that had a nice orchestra brass in it.
the stuff sounds so stale its like elevator music

but im serious if there is a whole section of people who use this for real id love if u point me to their content, like where are these people hiding
cause i can show u guys like 3000 discord communities all about making hiphop, edm, other electronic music
and they probably all downloaded the 400gb orchestra collection and saved it right into their trashcan

last thing and its not that brass doesnt fit those genres !! a single note brass hit can be turned into all kind of electronic straight up FIRE..
not that NI collection crap tho im sorry, honestly not EWs brass ether

nobody has mentioned Best Service Chris Hein yet
The Horns Complete version is around 44GB but the Compact version is only 4GB. There was a newer release called Orchestral Brass Compact around 6.53GB.
And Orchestral Winds Compact around 9GB.

Furthermore, Native Instruments Session Horns Pro can serve your requirements (as others have already suggested) but it's almost 30GB.

trumpet among the brass instruments in any virtual library always sounds the closest to realistic, especially short notes, no wonder why in synths it could satisfy you.

So what you want is a high quality ROMpler brass/woodwind sound. You won't get Yamaha-tier sounds out of anything but a Motif XF/Montage/MODX and your next best choice is the Korg Triton VST or the all-in-one EastWest Goliath library (little bit of everything)

You should've phrased the entire thing differently if you didn't want us to vote for the moron option tbh.

norCTrack libraries are absolute garbage though. Actual waste of HDD space. So are all the other sampled ROMpler libraries for Kontakt, none of them are good.

The norCTrack ones are garbage, but the Libaries by JUNIOR PORCIUNCULA are nice.

    Fantasy Libary = Roland Fantom

    Synthage Libary = Yamaha Montage

Had those as well. Again, garbage. It makes no sense to resample a rompler, you lose so much it's not even funny.

I used to own an Yamaha Motif XS8 very nice and clean Sounds, but the Pricepoint was over 2K Euros. So its hard to compare with 100 Euro Libaries. I bet if a Company like Spitfire would Sample it it would sound great but would cost like 500-600 Euros. Maybe some Day there will be an real Emulator where you can load the Original Roms like the MotorolaDSP for the Access Virus Series (which is a Synth and not a Rompler i know).

I have a Motif XF6 and paid 1400 for it a while ago and don't regret it one bit. Even bought the firewire card for it for another 200 bucks. Spitfire can't sample it unless it wants to get involved in a lawsuit nor does the price of a library have anything to do with its actual quality.
It seems like you crave the rompler sound and want to take shortcuts to acquire it without even knowing how a rompler works. Neither do the people who make rompler libraries for Kontakt and sell them at ridiculous prices.

What makes the Sounds so nice on the Motif is the FX Section if you disable reverb etc. it sounds totally diffrent.

It's actually the meticulously sampled instruments - instruments that Yamaha themselves make but sure, let's say it's the FX section.

I'm surprised that noone has mentioned the Audio Modeling and Sample Modeling stuff. Those are very small in footprint. Audio Modeling uses physical modeling to generate the sound. Sample Modeling uses a combination of sampling and modeling. Sample Modeling stuff is also recorded very dry and close mic'd.

I might also recommend Session Horns from Native Instruments and MOJO Horn Section by Vir2. Both of those are multi gigabyte libraries, but definitely have that close, intimate sound you might be looking for.
