It really is what somebody that's part of the conspiracy would say.

That's exactly what someone with cognitive dissonance would write.

If you see some DAW/VST tutorials you'll eventually notice that few of the youtubers have actual deep skill, in many cases someone just learned something new and they want to share it. They didnt learn it that well, but they think they did.

The most evident type of tutorial is sound design :p You can't really hide behind much there, the result is right there for everyone to hear, and normally the result is not usable for anything.

99,9% of the tutorials are made by amateur/hobby musicians. Which is fine ofc, I myself am one, you just have to be prepared that there's a lot of misinformation out there + stuff that could easily put you in the wrong direction, always be critical.

I think the best use for youtube is learning functionality, what features are available to you in a software, then you decide what to do with it yourself.

Yep, we live in a world where many times the blind are teaching the blind... and they all think they can see, lol.
I will admit though that Youtube is great for learning the basics on subjects, but after that hard work and or proper qualified education is necessary for high skill development in most areas. I'm always learning and Youtube has its place for sure, but it's just not the reliable solution for long term or higher skill development IMHO, but to each their own.

If YouTube or other tutorials could do something, they would have done it by now. The level of education has to change otherwise, dramatic or even slight changes in music won't happen. With this situation I see, the teachers from private dwellings will not come out of their invisible places and will not teach music. Not just music, but for other fields as well.

Why am I here? Aaah, it's fun!
Here's today's game: go back through the entire thread and just pretend it's about say, chemistry, instead of music and see how it works.

the majority of "tutorial videos" and online courses fall into one of these three groups:

1.) they are MADE by beginners. as they have no clue about things (and about teaching), what else could they offer.

2.) they are only made to make you watch ads, click banners, subscribe channels, get tracked, enter your personal data, tell your friends and come back. the content is not the product, you are the product. even if they know what they are talking about, their motive was not to teach you things.

3.) company made / releated videos. their main focus is to promote their products so that you buy it. content might be fine, but is very specific to that product.

there are also a few serious offers, but they usually cost money. for example to learn how to compose, produce and commercialize a symphony you would usually have to study music, sound engineering, and then make experiences for 10-20 years before you are ready to distribute your own work.

what shouuld i say... if the correct answer to the question is "you must find your own way, that´s how everyone did it", there is no chance how to learn about this by frontal teaching. and furthermore probably also not in under 10 minutes, for that matter.

i could share everything i have ever experienced with you, but my experience is 25 years old and completely invalid today, i am in another country, i have other priorities, i am not you.

two things which are often quite contradictionary.

    Teachers of Michael Haydn:
    - Johann Matthias Frankh
    - the Leader of st. Stefan Choir in vienna (can´t find his name)
    - various leaders and collegues of the chamber orchestra of Salzburg
    - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
    - Leopold Mozart
    - various other Composers, Theorists, and Artists.

however, haydn was alltogether more of an autodidact and experimentalist, something which was rather uncommon at that time.

haydn was also a teacher himself and had dozens of "students".

the list of the young mozart would look similar, his father and grandfather would also appear there. :)

the word "teacher" - outside of formal education - also did not really exist as we use this word today, which is why it is a bit difficult to find out where someones influence or knowledge actually comes from.

but surely almost everyone who knows a lot had teachers.

btw guys, this is really good:

the only problem with quality content is that it is difficult to find. youtube is very good in hiding content from you which only gets 5000 clicks in 6 years. this is also part of the answer to the OP´s issue.

    Thank you for your posts.
One of the biggest problems in music is that people don't want to learn. This is the deepest.
Because many people think that they have digital tools or have rented a studio and receive an amount of money for the work they do for their clients, they are professionals and professionals do not need to learn anything. What can be done with these very wrong ideas? If you read the posts in this thread, you will understand what I mean. Working in a home or rented studio creates this illusion.
These people do not want to learn much. You assume that these people are always on YouTube and start watching or clicking on videos that have no features.
So that this way of thinking doesn't change among these people and they don't feel that they don't know anything, then maybe they will realize the depth of the problem and start learning. In the current situation, it is unlikely to find or upload valuable videos on YouTube with so many people who have terrible false confidence.

    PS:
Of course, it doesn't matter that much, because if there is a 1 in a million chance that they want to learn, they won't be able to find anything special in the educational videos. The same primitives been reproduced in other ways. YouTube is more like a shop window or a showcase that everyone passes by and watches and chooses what to buy or enjoy, otherwise they won't be taught how to make that thing.
There is a difference between enjoying and learning. One does not learn much by having fun. Now someone finds evidences to prove the opposite of what I said.

To get at the crux of why tutorials are aimed at beginners, one must first delve into the etymology of the word. Over 3,000 years ago while halfway through constructing the Egyption King Tutankamun's pyramid, the head architect Paphnutius lost his brightest and best underlings to an outbreak of syphilis after a wild Saturday night downtown at the Hather (Egyptian goddess of love) House of Yummies and was unsure of how to move forward with the project. He asked for an audience with the King, and in his great wisdom the brillant Tutankamun said, "Just teach some new mutherfuckers how to do that hard shit", and thus at his command it was so. To sum up, "tut" stands for Tutankamun and "orial" by word of mouth.

    Amazing, eh?

I'm pretty sure there's an online course you could take that would answer this question.
