It turns out I may be wrong
Indeed DDMF claims to use a Dirac signal, not only theoretically but in practice. I looked into it and found this thread:
    https://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=499635&start=90

The last one defending the diraq method admits you need to known several things of the effect you're measuring in advance in order to work well.

But that means not using the best tool that is the sine sweep. I'm honestly surprised because it's a known fact among audio tech people who are into measuring audio frequency responses.

Well, may be I'm missing something. I'm not into snobby dick swinging about who's right so I'm happy to be corrected but in this one I'm completely sure. Not that I haven't been wrong being completely sure before

As I already stated, it's a small test and I didn't align or match anything, just dialed in the same values to give you an impression of their sound.
But thanks for your effort and work.

I agree with @Lois Lane , time to derail the shit out of this thread. My little contribution:

Due to my shite hearing I will now attempt to fuse the last two posts to exhibit what I got out of this test...

The differences that were standing out to me when comparing those four compressors was the same of my understand Dirac's original Quantum Formula, p0 = ih∂/ct.

It was just meant as a joke. I wasn't planning on starting a cockfight here.

I see the whole thing this way: there is no such thing as "the best method of measurement", because the choice of method depends on what I want to measure.

If I want to measure a room response over the frequency spectrum, I need a sine sweep with the longest possible period.

But if I want to measure the phase response or the shape of a filter and evaluate it dynamically, a sine sweep is rather obstructive.

Your statement that a sinus sweep as measuring input provides the most meaningful results is certainly correct.
The question is: is it practical (and does it have extra advantages) in this situation?

What I want to say is:
Just use what makes sense for you. :)

    To top it off:
What are the advantages and disadvantages of analysis inputs?

    White/Pink Noise:
    • Advantage: quickly available, rough linear representation of the broadband frequency spectrum
    • Disadvantage: chaotic single bands due to self-modulation; no fixed peak value; no information about impulse fidelity; no information about non-linearity; no meaningful information about phase response

    FFT noise/ dirac sequence:
    • Advantage: quickly accessible, linear representation of the audible frequency spectrum; single bands have a fixed peak value; detailed information about impulse fidelity; information about phase response
    • Disadvantage: low significance in the low frequency range; no meaningful information about non-linearity

    Sine sweep:
    • Advantage: detailed representation of the frequency spectrum; single bands have a fixed peak value; detailed information on phase response; detailed information on non-linearity
    • Disadvantage: no information about impulse fidelity; high expenditure of time for meaningful measurement

    No guarantee for completeness!

So if the goal is to analyze the frequency response of a filter in the audible range, Dirac is a good choice!

You do NOT necessarily need Plugin Doctor for this.
All you need is an FFT Noise and FFT Analyzer with adjustable Peak Hold Window (or center-function).
    • SPAN is free.
    • ReaJS (which includes FFT Noise) is free.

The FFT block size must be the same for both the noise and the analyzer. 16384 is usually a good compromise.
A peak hold window of 1-2 seconds usually gives good results.

The worrying thing is that I don't even have to try! @Xupito But yes, acknowledged.

I'm kind of just happy that I now know I could hear what I thought I should hear from this test.
I knew I was listening for something great (theEQorange), yet my mind perceives Nova as great!
If I'd had orange to test at home, I might have been able to spot it. But Nova sounded like I am used to hearing, so for me I liked it more than orange, which seemed almost identical except for some nicer frequencies in (to my perception) the high mids and highs.
So in a way the test was better due to not knowing anything about orange, or even having heard it before.
I think the reason I didn't like it as much is because it's not what I'm used to hearing, and probably was more 'real' to my ears. So much that I didn't like it! And maybe Nova is slightly rounded or hyped on the lows in some way, which may not be as accurate as orange but is what I'm used to. Does that make sense?
I have a windows system as well as my mac, but due to being on mac most of the time, I haven't got that PluginDoctor thing y'all use. But I'm going to get it now and do some studies.
It's not as if I can test an eq plug with just Span, is it? Or something from iZotope?

edit: doh. Just seen your post @Sinus Well ! Great info, thank you.
I have Span Plus so I just need the other one.

Absolutely. You normally don't use a linear phase EQ with several bands on a drum subgroup and therefore Nova sounds more familiar.

PD doesn't tell everything. Especially nothing about the timing of the bands which contributes a lot to their sounds. The bands of two EQs can have the same phase, slope and level and still sound different.

Take a look at the length of my middle finger on my avatar and then extrapolate what you see in your mind's eye to the show stopping length of my estimable manhood. Daddy Lovebone be da last man standing come any showdown,, be it at dawn or be it dusk, Daddy and his Lovebone be walkin' out alive.

Yeah. Only for mastering. Do you know, that hadn't crossed my mind when I did the test, even though I knew it was a LP eq!
AND I still haven't heard the second part of the test!
But what a great eq it is! Blown me away.

A simple dirac sample is also sufficient. Then only the distance between the samples or the length of the loop is important.
