I'm using the official ISO from Microsoft, with my language pack, then I recently upgraded to Windows 11, on unsupported hardware, without TPM :hifive: :thanks:

some flavours already have it integrated, but of course you can install startisback via ghostspectre commandline or separately on your own

I need to reinstall my Computer (DAW) system which is shall be exclusively for music production and not for internet usage, games or whatever people use their systems for. That's what I am using my Laptop for.

I got a really old PC from 2014, intel i7, 32 GB RAM, fast SSD etc. which I could give you the specs / details of if necessary.

So I am looking for the best possible win (10, 11?!) version for this.

The *windowsxlite* thing looks quite handy and seems to be somewhat what I am looking for. Does this
need any registration / validation of some sort or can you just install it and be happy?

Are there any other, yet better options (winxlite) or is this the version to consider as a basis for music production?

How much longer will the software we are using right now be compatible with win10 versions?
Are there any compatibility issues to be expected in the near, foreseeable future? I mean in case I keep
using the "newest old version" it should be working as it did by the time I installed it, right?
But there are possibly always some kind of issues to expect regarding hardware-software-compatibility for whatever
    reason.

Not sure if Win11 (of course also a stripped down version) would be an option as well. What are the downs to 11
regarding musicproduction and what are those of win10?

from my experience from team os or the pirate ,no .i guess its same with the other mentioned in this thread

not really ,all the lites are free'd from dumb processses and services which saves bit ram and cpu
this is more about custom win ,no ms shit and free a bit of resources

u opened up to much topics but i would say you def wont regret using xlite or spectre or what not

I am using Tiny 11 and I am very pleased with it! Never had any issues with it (audio nor video). You can strip down any Windows ISO yourself or grab one ready by NTDEV (also Tiny 10). Just do some research...

So you would recommend Win11 over Win10? If so, could you let me know why you would chose 11 and not 10?

Would you say, the one recommended is "better" than windowsxlite versions?

I really only need all necessary functions / possibilities to make music and get rid of all the crap that uses recources and invades privacy. Even if I don't use it for internet access.

I am basically clueless of how to alter an ISO to my likings and would rather not mess with that. Or is that one you linked basically self- explanatory?

    Thanks for your help!

running win10 ghostspectre 22H2 lite for internet. not certain if that's even available anymore but I have the image. last time I looked on g-clouds the only images of 22H2 were W11. tried win11 but it sucks for backward compatibility with a large portion of support ware I use. there is also a new win7 pro dec'24 fully updated image just released (with all the pay-ware updates applied). will be trying that out as well since I prefer win7 over any of the "newer" ms os's by far.

you need 2 puters and certain program to make it and i dare to say you will have custom great squishy iso after more or less intense research if never dealt with win bloat and the first great one will be approximately your 3 work .

I have never used windowsxlite version, so I cannot comment on that. I believe xlite has even less apps than tiny 11 ( but as I said I might be wrong...)

I prefer win11 over win10 or win7. It has a different feel, different animations, explorer tabs and is the latest Windows build. I see no reason why having old OS that does not have support (end of service) - like 22H2 - oder than personal preferences.

Like I said, I never had any problems with it (Ableton, Studio One, Adobe, Autodesk, etc). It comes with no Internet Browser, so download a Firefox or Chrome installer before. All you need is a Rufus (software) to make a bootable image of it and download the ISO image (24H2 - 3.3G) in this link. https://archive.org/details/tiny11-2409

There are plenty of tutorials how to install on the net!
    Best luck!

a word on os activations... i do not believe any of the suppliers of alternative os images (paid or free) come pre-activated or with "keys". they wouldn't be able to exist as "suppliers" very long without getting sued if they did. keys don't really matter much anyway because you still have to hit a oem server to activate and the odds are nil that a supplied key (keys most likely having been appropriated from some dubious source) would hold up for any appreciable length of time before becoming blacklisted, if they even worked at all. the burden of proper os activation is left to the user to provide in most cases, but is easily accomplished and do not involve the oem in any way.
