You can get some huge sounding supersaw/hypersaw leads with Audjoo Helix. It's kind of an obscure plugin at this point that I hardly see anyone talk about.

For freeware, I'd recommend Pneuma Pro (author took it down but it's on the sister site). Xhip also sounds great but eats a lot of CPU depending on how many unison voices you use.

"Best" is highly subjective. You can decide for yourself:

It's not in this video but Vital is free. Your DAW may even have a synth already (I used Alchemy in Logic for a while).

If you can afford it. Those classic synth are rare and hard to get in a good condition.

    @stav

    "Modern" VST :

    . Dune 3 - Synapse Audio
    . Serum - Xfer
    . Spire - Reveal Sound
    . Sylenth1 - Lennard Digital
    . Ana 2 - Sonic Academy
    . Massive X - Native Instruments
    . Hive 2 - U-he

    Hardware 1:1 VST :

    . Osirus/OsTIrus - DSP56300 (free !)

    Hardware emulation VST :

    . Discovery/Discovery Pro - DiscoDSP
    . Viper - Adam Szabo
    . JP6K - Adam Szabo
    . Sunrizer - Beep Street

The key to supersaw is to understand how the different detuning modes affect the sound (Linear, non linear, super, exponential, inverted, random, gaussian, alternate, perfect 5th, C7, minor, major, sub osc, swarm, unison 1,2,3,4 octave, etc...)
Each of these mode has a different name depending on the vst.
Understanding how the detuning spread change the sound in combination with the number of voices, osc, sub, filters, effects, etc...

Retro engineering factory/3rd party banks presets is a good place to start.

I would advise you to listen to preset demos of these synths because supersaws can sound very different if they are synthetized from virtual analog or wavetables and I'm pretty sure you could make some wild supersaws using an additive synth too.

Synths you might want to check :

    Phase Plant - Kilohearts
    Diva - U-He
    Zebra 2 - U-He
    Razor - Native Instruments
    Falcon 2 - UVI
    Thorn - Dmitry sches
    Electra 3 - Tone 2
    reFX - Vanguard 2

There is no "best" supersaw VST, but you can find the best one for you !
It's a mix of sound, GUI and workflow amongst other things.
People always connect with a synth for a few reasons.

There are tons of others options out there, I don't know them all.

Since you asked for a free one, I would say your best option is Vital from Vital Audio and you can check Ronan Fed Pneuma wich is free aswell.

Just use any synth that let's you resynthesise (Vital, Serum for example) and make your own boutique saws. Endless variations for very little effort.

ANA2 was never really hyped up, that I remember. Maybe people did not rate it as Sonic Academy are not the first synth developer to come to mind for good plugin synths? As a general purpose synth it is pretty nice, and I think it may have a slightly quiet userbase.
But for the more common "trance" style supersaw and hypersaw parts, I do think you want to stick with something that is better at abrasive sounds that can cut through a mix. Virus, Serum, or even Phaseplant or Avenger. I bet a Nord Lead might do nicely.

Virus Ti or Adam Szabo JP6K. Really though, what is "best"? My favorite one to work with is Superwave Ultimate.

It should be noted that both JPK6 and Superwave are windows based only.

Exactly, and if one ever gets bored, grab a pack of wavetables of captures and use those into Vital. Next step: pick a random point in the WT, dial in basics - couple voices, detune, movement in the WT, right-click the preview window and resynthesise.
