I think one of the most uplifting songs that gave and give me motivation when tired and lagging energy, and handling my Softube Chandler parroting

A long time ago, back im 1980 something I had a pretty insane night after dropping multiple different "brands" and grades of acid (I think 9 or 10 in total through the night). I managed to have a conversation with myself while sitting at the kitchen table, I or he showed me my death. Things got really weird after that point, finally as the sun came up Comfortably numb was playing, easing me out of my trance like state. This song has stayed with me ever since as a song that represents tranquillity and life. It helped me through bad times and gave me the will to survive

I wore out 2 copies of that. Used to be one of my jams.
Now, people who know me usually think that i breathe disco, funk and jazz.
However, this made me a huge fan of prog and art rock in what seems a lifetime ago:

There is lambswool under my naked feet
The wool is soft and warm
Gives off some kind of heat
    A salamander scurries
    Into flame to be destroyed

    Imaginary creatures
Are trapped in birth on celluloid

The fleas cling to the golden fleece
    Hoping they'll find peace

    Each thought and gesture
    Are caught in celluloid
There's no hiding in my memory
    There's no room to avoid

    [Verse 2]
    The crawlers cover the floor
    In the red ochre corridor
For my second sight of people
    They've more lifeblood than before
    They're moving in time
    To a heavy wooden door
Where the needle's eye is winking
    Closing in on the poor

    [Refrain]
The carpet crawlers heed their callers:
"We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out"

    [Verse 3]
    There's only one direction in the faces that I see;
It's upward to the ceiling, where the chamber's said to be
Like the forest fight for sunlight, that takes root in every tree
They are pulled up by the magnet, believing they're free

    [Refrain]
The carpet crawlers heed their callers:
"We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out"

    [Verse 4]
Mild mannered supermen are held in kryptonite
And the wise and foolish virgins giggle with their bodies glowing bright
Through the door a harvest feast is lit by candlelight

It's the bottom of a staircase that spirals out of sight

    [Refrain]
The carpet crawlers heed their callers:
"We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out
We've got to get in to get out"

    [Verse 5]
The porcelain mannequin with shattered skin fears attack
The eager pack lift up their pitchers, they carry all they lack
The liquid has congealed, which has seeped out through the crack
    And the tickler takes his
    stickleback

    [Refrain]
The carpet crawlers heed their callers:
"We've got to get in to get out

I've had people try to strip my man card from me several times for liking such music but I could care less at this point in my life.
When I was 11 I heard this song on the radio for the first time. Prior to that, I used to listen to only punk rock and metal music (I'll still listen to that). But hearing the guitar melodies in that song made me feel at ease. I had a blank cassette tape in the radio and I hit record. The song finished and I hit stop, rewinded it and called my dad in to see if he recognized the song. I played it back for him and he quietly went into his CD room where he had literally hundreds of CDs... everywhere... organized in alphabetical order by band. He picked out that CD and popped it in. Skipped to track 6 and said, with an impressive smirk on his face, "sound familiar?"
He handed me the CD. What I didn't realize was a few of the songs on that album would inspire me to learn guitar - a skill that would one day get me through a lot of hardships in life. I never figured out what it was about until I was 24 and I experienced a somewhat similar situation. But all along, it just naturally hit me in the feels. I guess being a social outcast as a kid, not knowing how to communicate with my peers at the time and not knowing how to effectively communicate my needs and wants to people... well... at least this was the case until I was 13... it all made me feel like it was myself vs the world. To a point I forgot my own identity in a way. This song along with a couple others on the album helped me reconnect with my own humanity. Taught me not to be so angry. That it wasn't me vs the world but me vs myself.
But yeah, that's what inspired me to learn guitar and write music. Prior to that I never really cared for learning how to play music. I hated music class in school and to be honest, that was the class I goofed off the most in and got kicked out of every day. I never took the dances seriously and did my own deliberately terrible renditions/satires of them while everyone else acted normal. I took music more seriously when I was able to connect with it on an emotional level and "Name" was the first song that allowed me to do that.

I guess what I'm saying is, this song made me feel a little more human. And inspired me to learn a gift that could only keep on giving. As depressing as it is, it's very important to me

which song that made me drop everything and changed my life ?

if you are true fan of music you cant go wrong with beegees and jackson5

my dad was already a fan of jackson5/beegees/alves/beetles/boney M/ so i was raised listening to them
,it was daily listening in my dads car chevy monte carlo (exactly like this one )
and i remember i was picking one of those 8 track tape cartridges in the backseat and select one for the road
there was nothing special about the 8 track player back in those classic cars but the sound was awesome
there was 2 equalizing knobs on the sides as far as i remember..
and i remember stayin alive and night fever was my all time favorites ..good times

  18. The question is which one song?

  19. When I thought about which one particular song altered my perception of what music was, I had to really look back and remember when everything stopped. Time ceased and my mind was transfixed by Laurie Anderson above. If you haven't seen the video or heard the song, I think you should and see that it still has a hypnotic and disturbing quality.
A few answers here are missing the point. It would have been easy for me to say "The Beatles 45 CD Boxed Set" but it's about one song.
One song. That shaped everything in your life that followed as a musician.
