Any users able to provide experiences and which versions they use? There's a few different flavours, being Lite, Lite Plus, Super Lite, Enterprise, and so on. @The Pirate mentioned in a other thread that Oprekin has custom modified a version for DAW use, but can't see anything on his web threads (unless I need to pay the subscription before seeing it?!).

Anyway, was considering to dual boot to test out, so was wondering what version is best to use and which is the DAW optimised version?

    Cheers in advance all

I think that in that thread I explained that custom built are accessible once you become a supporter. It will cost but $20. You can have 1 custom built OS plus ability to access all others, plus technical support from Oprekin. Any issues that you have with your custom OS, he will fix for you. He replies promptly to everyone.
For those new to Oprekin builds, the way to go, other than custom builds, is by using a LITE version. The Super Lite for DAW work could become a PITA because resources needed for VSTs and DAWs are missing. Another thing to keep in mind is that these builds need a fresh install. What do I meant by that? You can't upgrade to them or from them. Some peeple dislike this but a fresh install is the way to go, and onece you have your OS installed and optimized there is no need to be messing around with updates UNLESS it is completely needed for the proper operation of your DAW PC. Those should be installed on a case by case basis. I hope this answers some of your questions.

So what does that mean if, for example, a VST or DAW is updated and requires an update? Do you have to reinstall from fresh again? Just checking, cos that would be a huge PITA to reinstall all the plugins again etc

Oprekin went paid-to-get, so I no longer bother with it, not worth the hassle to search for leaked unofficial builds,

if you're bored and wanna try some shady lightweight Windows build, GhostSpectre (Superlite builds with StartAllBack) is alright,
youtube channel is legit, and latest video description includes links and info,
if you want better DAW performance, then based on Windows 10 22H2, or if you fancy idea of latest bleeding edge then Windows 11 22H2,

ps: I hope you have two physical drives for proper dual-boot, and make sure only one drive is plugged in during install process to prevent any Windows fuckery

How does Oprekin compare to Tiny11/10 or Ghostspectre? (excluding annual subscription cost of course. A guy named The Pirate promoting a su)

From what I can find, Ghostspectre seems to have the lighter/faster OS as of this post. I'm in Tiny11 22h2 now and am quite pleased as it's my first "lite" OS and league's above the stock system. Don't like that some Oprekin features are behind a paywall

Tiny11 is set of scripts now, not a full image - that is a good thing but also means it's optimized for specific official Windows build you must download from Microsoft,
GhostSpectre is full pre-built image, one of its strengths is included Ghost Toolbox, a set of scripts to quickly deploy other features like DirectX, VisualC++, browsers and other apps of modifications upon user's prompt,

since gaming needs are surprisingly similar to DAW use needs, there shouldn't be any problems unless DAW/plugin dev relies on some specific uncommon components or Windows features

Thanks for the follow-up! One correction though, Tiny11 22h2 is available as ISO here(not warez, will need license): https://archive.org/details/tiny-11-NTDEV

I'll definitely check out Ghostspectre on my next fresh install. According to this video review, GS is about 3 seconds faster than Tiny11 while having a smaller install.

If OP or The Pirate can chime in with the Operakin comparison, I'd appreciate it.

I can't help you with that. I found a SAFE* build that solved the issues I was having with Studio One and stuck to it. As the saying goes,if it ain't broken don't fix it. Honestly, I do not think any other build or script will make my DAW PC better. Similar? Possible, why not?

*Note the usage of SAFE. Be careful with builds out there.

You are taking it out of context. Windows is not OSX, therefore, you can go years without having to upgrade in order to have your VST's and DAW work. It was up until last year that every DAW and VST worked in a Windows 7 system which came to light back in 2009. It is safe to assume that a W10 based system can go 4 or 5 years more without having compatibility issues. Indeed, I will suggest to you and everyone else to treat your DAW computer as a 5 commitment. By that I meant, to make it work as good as possible, and leave it alone! Some people spend more time tweaking their computers than actually using it or making music with it. With that said, if there were any future updates which were required for certain VSTs or DAWs, those would be easily installed or you could simply continue using the "old" version.

@George Santos I want specifically address something to pointed out and that leads many on the wrong path. You showed a video claiming that GS was faster than Tiny 11. I am not disputing that, however, faster does not mean better. A Ferrari is faster than a Ford pick up but can't carry the same load, and requires heavy maintenance. Indeed, I have versions of modified W10 builds that were "faster" than my current Oprekin 22H2 but not "better" as my DAW OS. What you need, and should look for, is a build that is stable, and that offers you low latency. The rest means shit.

In past I tested Win10Pro_2004.172_LitePlus_oprekin.com and I can confirm that not only you could have troubles with audio stuff, but also with other important sw like 3th party firewalls, avs, etc, of course this was a pretty old version, I can't speak for the new ones.

oh this is something I remember,
I couldn't use GlassWire firewall as it relied on Windows Firewall components, that time I moved to NetLimiter which was fully independent

New one is the same. He even warns users about it. As I said, best bet for everyone is to use the Lite builds.

I have just installed a Windows 10 Pro because I needed the unmodded ISO for Mac Bootcamp. Then I ran Windows 10 Debloater and it worked like a charm.

One of the other Windows builds to consider is Phoenix LiteOS. Ghost Spectre is great but I personally tested builds from TeamOS and Gen2 when it comes to unmodified or slightly modified builds (that contain everything so need to debloat yourself) and Ghost Spectre and Phoenix OS builds on the "lite" side, so after careful consideration and testing I decided to install Phoenix liteOS W10 LTSC (superlite 1.4GB ISO) on my old Lenovo laptop because I liked it better, subjectively. Nothing against GS build. Phoenix OS works even slightly better than Gen2 W7 I had on it and modded myself. Consumes ~800MB after booting (just about 50MB or so more than W7 I had!) to desktop and no problems with anything, really. Smashing!

Disclaimer: I don't use printers, scanners, cameras, players and remote shit with it (except many removable drives, sticks and SD cards), so I may be not aware of the problems with these. I also don't watch porn with it, so I can't guarantee it would be a smooth and ultimately juicy experience. :rofl:I only use it for Reaper and about 30 plugins over network and ReaStream when needed (rarely). I also control TC Mixer for my StudioKonnekt 48 over firewire with it (often). It works perfectly well for these limited tasks.

I was quite happy that firewire (using legacy MS FW driver) and TC worked without any problems with W10. That was my main worry.

since this thread is going on nicely, I wonder if anyone actually tested, or at least has an idea, if it makes sense to bother with debloating/removal of Windows components, or if disabling those (if at all possible) would be more elegant solution with literally no negative performance impact except higher disk usage (due to things not being physically removed from the system)?

I'd say if you want to be absolutely 100% sure for your Windows 10/11 to be able to run anything and everything you throw at it, to install full Windows and disable stuff you don't need with Windows debloat and similar tools. In that case "normal" LTSC Gen2 W10 or W11 is the way to go IMO.

This lite Phoenix OS by default doesn't include Windows Defender, Windows Store, Cortana and quite a few other shitty stuff that a lot of Windows users may actually want and use. Skype is probably missing, Edge might be missing, too. I need those for a DAW WS like I need a colon cancer.

Honestly, I don't need anything Microsoft on Windows except Windows itself. I have a set of programs that I've been using for decades - players, viewers, editors for this and that and that's it. VLC, MPC, Foobar2000, XnView MP, Firefox, Libre Office.

Can you please share which safe build you are using which solved the issues you were having with studio one? I also use studio one v6 with ghost spectre windows 10 lite build and I'm having a lot of latency issues.

I used Oprekin free in the past, when he went pay I switched to Phoenix and it works fine. I also used Ghostspectre, works fine. What's important is that your system works well. My computer is worth about 105 euros.

I heard it was Win 8.1 Factory default edition. paid. :lmao:
