Their entire body of work is very sad. One couldn't imagine a band that would draw so much attention and yet remain completely mediocre.

Honestly, it's an insult to the genre of "rock" that someone not just associates beatles with it, but even places them at the very top.

I would have to tell you, that you should probably seek medical advice as you are likely insane. There would not b a rock n roll history of the same calibre and breadth and history without the beatles. They pioneered many things include multi track recording, orchestral arrangements in rock n roll and concept albums. They literally taught the rest of us how to make music and how to sell it.

Pink Floyd wanted a record deal with EMI because the beatles were on it and they could use the same studios the beatles used, it worked for them I'd say.

Bit of an "Emperor's New Clothes" feel to this.
    Sorry to say I agree.
While they had many good ideas and were very creative at times, I like only little bits within their songs.
I am not sure there is one song I would listen to by choice, and I have not one of their songs in my library.
They were Pop Wonders for sure, and one must included them in "Rock n' Roll", but then...much of "Rock n' Roll" sucks.

    Okay I'll bite,

They're literally humanities Jungian archetype for all bands that actually play their own instruments. While many may question their musical potency (wrongly) one cannot deny they were the first to go through a typical lifecycle.

They managed 7 key modulations in a 3 minute pop song. A couple of years ago Eurovision couldn't manage one in a single show...

EDIT - @ Eurovision 2023. Ironically, held in Liverpool.

Saddest song? no one has said Yesterday yet! (IE the most covered song of all time)

They've made so many great songs, happy and sad. Impressive. Interesting that there are more sad songs than I thought, actually, and what I'm a sucker for - great lyrics.

btw. I love "Yesterday" and sometimes find myself singing it, changing the lyrics a bit, too. Great song for when you're depressed.

Julia is actually quite sad once you know the backstory. It's about his mother, who was killed in a car accident in 1958 and it really messed him up. He was a lot more direct on it in his solo songs Mother and My Mummy's Dead.
