    Hi All,

    This is my first post here and I'd firstly like to say thank you for all the time and effort that people have put in to making this community and the sister website what it is.

    I wanted to download one, maybe two symphony libraries. I made the mistake of downloading the first two libraries I found and well, they are pretty big, colossal even! It’s no issue for me to download others if that is what is recommended, or if they take up lots of room on the hard drive. You can see below that the ones I found were all from East West Quantum Leap.

    I was considering;
    EW QL Symphonic Orchestra Platinum Pro XP VSTi Dxi RTAS AU HYBRiD-DYNAMiCS
    East West Quantum Leap Colossus KONTAKT REPACK
    East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra Platinum Edition KOMPAKT/working in KONTAKT
    East West - Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra GOLD Pro XP (5 DVDs) (OLD)
    East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra Platinum Edition KOMPAKT/working in KONTAKT
    I’ve already downloaded;
    East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra Silver Edition DVDR-CoBaLT
    EW QL COLOSSUS VSTi Dxi AU RTAS HYBRiD DVDR D1-8-DELiRiUM

    My question is two fold;

    a) If you were only going to have one EWQL symphony library what would it be?
    b) If you rate a different brand higher for symphony releases what would that company and release be?

    In summary, I’m happy to delete the libraries I’ve already downloaded if the consensus is I have the wrong libraries. I’d rather just focus on one or two libraries rather than have copious amounts of libraries that may overlap and take up an enormous amount of space on my hard drive that I’m not going to use.

    Thanks for your time.

    If you search google about EWQL SO packages you will find all needed informations...

    Silver = small amount of sections and articulations and only one mic with ambience (stage mic only), 16bit samples, etc...
    Gold = more sections and articulations and only one mic with ambience (stage mic only), 16bit samples, etc...
    Platinum = full sections and articulations + 3 mic positions (Close, Stage, Surround), 24bit samples, etc...

    In every release XP stands for Expansion which brings you more patches and articulations and specialised qlegato patches...

    I like to use Platinum XP close mics through my custom fx reverb channels.

    It all depends of how you plan to use symphonic orchestra. If you would like to add symphonic elements to some pop songs etc... then you should never be concerned about articulations and you can use silver or gold, or even excerpt of symphonic from Colossus...
    If you plan to make more symphonic/classical style of music then you need articulations and variants and then you need Platinum + PRO XP, and many more ...

    One query here as I haven't used any of the above... These library now more than a decade old, are these still dope and useful with so many libraries from Spitfire, LASS, 8Dio.

    I have been using Gold with Pro XP for ages. Still great.
    Above info was slightly wrong, these old versions all have all articulations, the difference is
    Platinum = 24bit with 3 mic positions
    Gold = 16bit with 1 mic
    Silver = 16 bit stretched sampling (not every note is sampled, some are stretched)

    New Play versions are different there Silver is not stretched anymore, but it has a lot fewer articulations.

    You're right... they ARE old. They still sound okay but where they lag behind is in their playability and keyswitching. Just crap compared to LASS, Berlin Strings and the Spitfire Range. Even Cinematic Strings 2 is laid out better and more useful. I even have CineStrings but my "go-to" library is LASS. It ALWAYS comes through for me... and makes me a lot of money too. Isn't that why we buy this crap?

    Thanks for your feedback, I'd be interested to know what LASS stands for. Apologies, I don't know what this is.

    Thanks phloopy. So it seems LASS are just for strings. Food for thought.
