hi, i would appreciate any suggestions, plan is to play guitar live and slam a bunch of vst effects on it. keep it simple.
do hosts have automation? probably a dumb question.
so, which daw will give lowest latency, put up with most vsts, 32 bit too, and be the least headache overall?
does bridging introduce latency, any preferences? my audio card has 2+2ms latency in+out @ moderate settings and should be good.
question is for both win7pro64 currently and win10 sometime soon.
thanks for any input, except 4 a discussion on why 32 bit are obsolete. i knew that already.
to me 4 x 32 are better than 1 x 64. more is more. and there are so many vsts.

 

I use 2 DAWS in Windows 10 - 64 Bit

1.) Cakewalk - Sonar for the " 32 bit plugins "
I installed "Cakewalk - Sonar- Platinum v23 - 64 bit" for 32 bit plugins.
Sonar installs the 32 bit plugins automatically. Runs very stable.

2.) PreSonus - Studio One for the " 64 bit plugins "
PreSonus - Studio One, is very stable and has a very good workflow.

As a beginner you should test all DAWs as a trial version and then decide on one that you can handle.

The latency depends on the audio interface. Which audio interface do you use?
These are all good: PreSonus - Studio One, Ableton - Live 11, Steinberg - Cubase, Bitwig - Studio 4

 

thanks, but doesnt seem very practical to use 2 daws for real time effects.
i`m not a musician, dont go into post production, no need to preserve.
musicians need to practise, i`m a technician. i want to play.
cant quite believe daw and bridging doesnt affect latency at all.

 

It's very hard to understand what it is you want to achieve. I don't think you want a DAW at all. You want to play your guitar through an amp sim and use FX plugins. This is a different question and there are many standalone applications for guitar. Is this what you want?

yes, its kind of what i want, but there are so many cool vsts too. rhythmic modulation ones, weird ones.
i have a Line6 pod hd 500, hardware unit.

This OP. I've never seen anything launch faster than Reaper. Nothing. They have no competition in this area. If all you want to do is just jam and possibly just have the ability to record some of those jams when go with Reaper.

Load up an fx chain for your guitar of an amp sim with impulse responses then add whatever fx you want pre or post your amp rig plugins.Throw some loops into the arrangement view so you can practice to more than a click track and have fun. It's that simple.

 

i did have my mind set on reaper, but i doubt its that simple. for me.

 

It's that simple with any daw. Reaper is just the quickest way to get you into a jam session. Just run your guitar into your interface then run that line into your guitar channel on your mixer, set up your plugins in that channel and jam out.

There are no difficult steps and there are no extra steps either. It seems more daunting than it really is if you never done it before. But after you do it, you won't think so anymore.

 

Studio One has a Show page specifically for performing live. And as said above, the DAW itself is very easy to learn - much easier than something like Cubase

 

Don´t know nothing about Reaper but doubt you can understand it? C´mon man stop that and just download Reaper demo from developer.

They all have a learning curve, and until you just settle on one and start at the very beginning, you will end up chasing your tail. Realistically, they are all the same, it’s just getting there is different, so stop installing or searching for all the DAWs and pick one and then start at the very very beginning like you know nothing and go from there. It will stop frustrating you and you will get stuff done (and I am speaking from someone that did piss about trying EVERYTHING, but finally settled on Cubase and the rest is expensive history!)

 

Not your typical choice for guitar but I can recommend FL Studio. It just loads up extremely quick, which is great if you just want to pick up your electric and play. And if you want to record something, programming some midi bass and drums with the piano roll is a breeze in FL. I get 4 ms of latency with Bias FX at 96 KHz using a Scarlett Solo Gen 3. Oh, and it has a 32 bit VST bridge already built in.

 

Reaper, like many said

It's as easy as you need it

Just simple delete everything you don't want
and bingo simplest there is


But also Bitwig is a good choice in my opinion
specially for

Bitwig comes with Crash protection (In a live scenario, this can save you from a lot of sweating )

The amp sims are quite good, there are MANY of them, plus you have almost every conceivable guitar effect, you can create 2 parallel chains, it has a looper, tons of cool presets to get going, Ownhammer IRs, and their proprietary Rig Player

If your goal is to play, and not record yourself, don't lose time with any DAW. TH-U standalone has everything a guitar player needs.
