Hi, to everyone! I am an Ableton user and i also used in the past FL Studio. I would like your opinions about which DAW has the best internal plugins (effects-instruments). I am considering give a try to Studio One 3 and i'd like to know if anyone have used both of them (Ableton-Studio One), in order to be adviced if it is worth it or not.

Avid ProTools has the best internal plugins IMHO.

If you are talking virtual instruments, imho Logic is a tough one to beat I think.

They are all the same to me. I like to program patches on my own so I dont care about a bunch of presets.

I've used Audition, Tracktion, Logic, Studio One and am currently using Pro Tools. Logic is my #1 choice for internal plugins, whether they be Audio or Software/Virtual Instruments.

I really like S1 but I never rely on internal plugins (doesn't matter which DAW).

that's actually an interesting topic, as for some reason I'm not really using internal plugs other than the ultra-basic stuff (lo/hipassing etc). Only exception from that is the Analogue Modeling Suite from Samplitude ... though when I bought Samplitude, I think I had to purchase that package extra. For instruments I have yet to find a DAW that comes with a package that I would use for more than a run-of-the-mill e-piano-sound - neither Independance from Magix nor Mai-Tai, 8 treasures or synth-sweet-sour or whatever the Presonus-synths are called would ever be able to replace Kontakt or Omnisphere.

Other than that I concurr with mrpsanter above: whatever plugin any DAW may come along with, Voxengo, VladG, TDR/TokyoDawn, Toneboosters or Fabfilter got plugs that my ears definitely prefer. Not even to mention the free plugs from Audio-Mozart Bootsy/VarietyOfSound which after all those years are still amazing.

Different story with amp-sims, though: I find those quite acceptable ... at least in S1 or Samplitude.

I think Audition, Logic, and REAPER have some pretty goot included FX. Why? They have specialist stuff:

    • Audition: Center Channel Extractor. No other DAW has built-in FFT imaging FX iirc (apart from SONAR, but SONAR's a drag to use)
    • Logic has vocal pitch correction, but it's missing ^
    • REAPER has pitchshifting as an FX, and has a ton of included JSFX
Basically EVERY DAW has EQ, COmpression, Reverb, etc. Those should not affect your DAW choice.

Not sure whether S3 & AL have specialist stuff like that

I would say that I've rarely arrived at a point where I couldn't do what I wanted in Logic Pro. It is so "old" that one tends to forget what it has to offer, but it has plenty. The FX mostly work perfectly well for professional productions, I would only add a few high-end emulations of analog gear like Saturators, Comp/Limiters and EQs when appropriate, and some special FX like StutterEdit, Tantra, LFOtool or the likes.
The latest inclusion of soft synths like Alchemy, PPG Wave/DX7/Minimoog-style synths on top of Sculpture, Evoc20, ES1 and ES2 etc. is insane.
If you cannot get friends with its workflow (and indeed I prefer Live for the first ideas and takes), build a few nice templates with your fav instruments and FX and routings that you can quickly fire up without losing time.

Just download the demo and see what you think.

Asking this is like asking who sells the best coffee? Only you can answer that.

If you don't need to share / collab your project with anyone else, I'd suggest NOT to use stock plugins!

Almost all DAW stock plugins have a lower quality then vst/au equivalents, like reverb, delay, compressors etc.
Even the free Computer Music plugins (eg Vengeance philtaXL CM) are offering a better sound/processing quality!

Only Ableton has a better codebase for some stock plugins, like the compressor, which is licensed by Cytomic ("the glue" compressor, ssl emulation).

I think it is a little more subjective then that, but I do think vst equivalents can have better usability

im not gonna say Ableton is the best... but MAN that shit kicks soooo much ass. I mean, so endless the shit to do. who even gives a fuck about the others... (as far as quality is concerned)... I have Logic, its great, etc. BUt sooo happy with Live... I use it for elecronic techno, dance genre shit though... so, its not pop-rock "I will use PT" type situation... anyway..
