    Hi everyone,

I was wondering what do you use to download music for free? Is there a risk-free website? I know there are plenty of websites that lets you download full tracks, such as mp3vip, zippyshare, etc... but which ones are safe? Also, should I always run an antivirus when downloading tracks on my iMac?

    Thank you!

jdownloader for that, alot faster as soundcloud downloader.

    bandcamp im downloading with JD2.
then we have youtube, some music videos have a bitrate of 253kbit/s that close to itunes quality, you just need to convert it to mp3.

I create lots of music, of my own, on my own. That costs me nothing - except my own time, my own cumulative experience, my own talent, my own soul that drives me to create and to do it my own particular way. Then I put it up for sale on Bandcamp. Because people "don't have time" to liste to a whole album, and because I want to provide a good enough idea of what it sounds like, I post along with the album a sampler medley comprising about a minute of each song. The sampler medley is provided free to download; the album is a modest $5 to purchase in FLAC or some other high-quality format (though there is a provision for the listener to pay more, if they deem my time, talent and effort to be worth more than the $4 I'll net from the sale). You wouldn't believe the glowing praise I get for my sampler medleys, which people somehow mistake for the entire album, which they praise, rather than saying, "Your new sampler medley is great."

I have a generous amount of music streaming on my website, but I also have about three more hours of music on Soundcloud, because I want people to be able to get familiar with my music, perchance to enjoy it, without demanding their money but only their time, which is even more valuable, as it is that for which we musicians are ultimately vying among the public. I also am mindful of the fact that the public would rather "milk the cow through the fence" and will settle for crappy-sounding MP3@128 streams, transcoded and downsampled from my original (carefully-produced, -mixed and -mastered) uploaded files, rather than full-quality FLAC files purchased for about the price of a pint of craft beer or less than a pack of cigarettes, which are more immediately (but ephemerally) gratifying, but which don't remain in one's life nor bring resonant meaning into it – so they are welcome, whether I like it or not, to download the Soundcloud streams via JDownloader or Firefox's Video Downloadhelper or Audio Hijackoff or whatever.

I had used to have PayPal "donate" button on my site, to asssuage the guilt of those who'd rather rip crappy lo-fi streams of my music than appreciate both its full-quality audio and my time, talent and labor, but nobody hit the thing and I felt like a pathetic mendicant for having it there. Now, I just bend over and take it like a man.

I used to be a music hoarder download everything for free and be a greedy cunt.
mainly because i travel a lot so used to always use my ipod.

but now, i only listen to music at home, and spend my travelling time reading books with ear plugs to block out the real world.

i buy a lot of music now, my CD collection has got massive and so has my itunes library. i have a rule now of not downloading music.
a lot of the bands and artists i listen to sell their own music so i know the money is going straight to them.

in fact the last CD i bought cost me £25 after shipping from abroad, but it's worth it.

and for the music i like i haven't yet bought, because of it costing a lot, i use spotify.

i think streaming is the way forward.

but i totally understand why people use torrents.
