when you have tinnitus, what happens when you play music through earphones

if you play the music at a moderate level on earphones, how much that covers the tinnitus?

its like tiny speakers up against your ears, it will all depend on the frequencies of the music and the amount and type of tinnitius including which frequencies you are susceptible. Why don't you find someone with Tinnititus and try some experiments and let the rest of know your results?

Music doesn't really cover up tinnitus, it distracts your brain so it's paying attention to something else. It's why us tinnitusians are referred to psychologists, to help us learn how to not listen to the tinnitus because it sounds louder when we do so. Now that I'm typing this and thinking about tinnitus my tinnitus is much louder than normal, except it hasn't objectively changed in volume at all. I have just drank a cup of tea though and that always boosts the perceived volume.

I no longer notice it. My tinnitus is at about 11000 Hz.

Nothing. Your tinnitus will be there even at very loud volumes. But you can trick your brain into not to focus in it by listen to music that have a lot of movement around your main tinnitus frequency. It will not cover up, just your brain will have it harder to focus on it. And if the music you're listening doesn't have any movement or presence on those frequencies, your brain will be hyperfocusing on it no matter what cause of the contrast.

Tinnitus is like a drunken friend who calls at 2am when you're desperately trying to sleep.

of what I understand, tinnitus is usually a specific narrow frequency whine,
you can "easily" mask it by playing/listening audio slightly off, around that frequency spectrum,
but you can't filter/phase it out in a way sonarworks correction compensates your room
