Isn't it a little ironic that the OP is opining the dearth of 'music related' posts whilst making just such a post that has nothing to do with music either?
If somone is off-topic then you have the choice to not engage or have a moderator deal with it. It seems odd to post short tempered missives like Pirate has done here. It's also a little strange that he is scouring through peoples comment histories to try and support his ( unrelated to making music) comments. Just don't give these 'comments' oxygen. or get moderators to sort it out.

I have printed the entire conversation to a pdf, you can PM me and I will be happy to send the entire conversation to you and you can tell me if anything I said warranted this.

Now, how do we improve the situation? Screw keeping these people anonymous. Call them out by name. Call out bad behavior for what it is. If you see it, call them on it. Music is a powerful medium, even if it is used for political motives. Anyone remember the rap song, fuck the police? How about Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture? How about John Lennon's "Imagine"? All political pieces, meant to affect political change. Do I agree with them? With exception to 1812 Overture, no. Do they have a right to exist? Yes. Should political pieces be accepted here? Absolutely. As long as your song isnt extolling the virtues of violence, murder, rape, incest, or other heinous activity, free speech is one of America's founding principles, and I believe in it. America happens to be the only country that had the balls to include it in our founding principles, and it exists for a reason.

I am not apologetic anymore. I am tired of being trampled over by shit heads that have nothing useful to say, have no understanding of how to create anything, instead, they sit around and critique the work of others. This is maybe controversial. Maybe I am coming across as a dick head, but I am through with diplomacy.

This is a powerful medium and a powerful opportunity for people to learn. My orchestral arrangements are very good, and this is not intended as bragging, this is intended to say that I know the work I do surpasses most of the kind of orchestral work I see around here. This is not to say ya'll are terrible, its to say, this is a perfect opportunity to learn. Its a perfect opportunity to share and put yourself out there in what SHOULD be, a non-judgemental community. Understandably, what I do is fairly niche and I understand there are not many here that are writing thematic film score orchestral music. Nonetheless, I still listen to nearly every genre of music out there.

I know there are alot of folks here that want to be able to do what Daniel James does. Guess what? That doesnt come without practice and collaboration. I have spent two years learning MIDI intimately. Using my 30 years of composing experience and music theory, I have made the technical aspects of MIDI work to create truly astonishing pieces that far surpass even my own expectations. I sit back and listen to the dozens of pieces I have composed over the past 2 years and I am not only impressed that I did that, but that the technology has come this far. I also am always learning something new about how to improve. Good criticism leads to self improvement. Critiquing others work leads to improving yourself. Not only do you learn what NOT to do, but you also learn what things TO do. If you can learn to critique the work of others in an understanding way, you will see yourself improve, trust me.

Since I went a bit off topic here, I want to bring it back to one simple thing. My mother always said, if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything at all. Just because it is old advice, doesnt mean it is bad advice. Be a better person and stand up for what is right. Call bull shit out for what it is. Most importantly, Always Be Creating. Put your work out there for others to see. You'll develop thicker skin over time, but in the end, especially if it is valid advice, there is always something new to learn.

For real, all that? I was under the impression that all it takes a musician to learn MIDI is 2-3 months. Do those astonishing pieces resemble that bossa nova piece you posted ? I guess with 300 years of experience you will learn how to program and/or play a proper drum/percussion track.

We have rules explaining some of what can be done as well as to can not be done, however, without a clear statement as to the purpose and goal of this forum, these rules can be interpreted broadly or simply ignored.
Second, allowing a thread to run for several pages and then closing it down because of "controversy" is not, and never will be, the solution. All that this does is create confusion, fuel controversy, and open the door to another thread complaining about the closing of the previous one. A thread should either be allowed to run or immediately be closed or deleted.
To say that this forum is turning into an unpleasant place to visit and participate would be an understatement. This is the reason why long-time and contributing members have left, and others continue to leave. ( Don't celebrate, I am not going anywhere. Either @SAiNT, @Olymoon or @ArticStorm will have to kick me out)
Indeed, it is absurd that in a forum purported- to-be for professional audio lovers a member posts a track and the thread goes ignored, while threads about some topic totally unrelated to music become immensely popular. Do not blame the administration for it. We are the only ones to be blamed for our own lack of enthusiasm and interest in what we claim to be our passion.
