Lately, the attention of the forum seems to be focusing on everything but music-related topics. To be clear, time and again, we are faced with threads that have little to do with music or the entertainment industry. Threads discussing climate change, politics, trolls, or the ignore list seem to be the norm rather than the exception. What is more disturbing about this trend is that these threads are allowed to run for long thus leading to unnecessary controversy, and serving as a platform to personally attack other members of the community. There is no benefit to this community in having those threads. They do nothing but shift the focus and orientation of this forum from what it should be. Are we here to talk about music, mixing, or are we here to discuss Foster, climate change, Trump, and Nazis?
In these kinds of situations, it is easy to point the finger at certain members but some of the blame for what is going on here also lies with the administration.
First, there is NOT one single paragraph defining what Audio Sex is about. That should, and needs to be, the starting point. We have rules explaining some of what can be done as well as to can not be done, however, without a clear statement as to the purpose and goal of this forum, these rules can be interpreted broadly or simply ignored.
Second, allowing a thread to run for several pages and then closing it down because of "controversy" is not, and never will be, the solution. All that this does is create confusion, fuel controversy, and open the door to another thread complaining about the closing of the previous one. A thread should either be allowed to run or immediately be closed or deleted.
To say that this forum is turning into an unpleasant place to visit and participate would be an understatement. This is the reason why long-time and contributing members have left, and others continue to leave. ( Don't celebrate, I am not going anywhere. Either @SAiNT, @Olymoon or @ArticStorm will have to kick me out)
Indeed, it is absurd that in a forum purported- to-be for professional audio lovers a member posts a track and the thread goes ignored, while threads about some topic totally unrelated to music become immensely popular. Do not blame the administration for it. We are the only ones to be blamed for our own lack of enthusiasm and interest in what we claim to be our passion.

I don't know if it's because you spend a fair amount of your time in here, but as someone who comes once in a while i always get plenty music related threads to read and find the forum just fine to browse.

I mean, there's a lounge to discuss non-music stuff. Are these people you think about posting those threads that bother you in the music categories ? Or are they mostly cornered in the lounge and non-music subs ?

I have a hard time understanding how words written by a stranger in a compartimented category of a forum can push anyone to leave. The notion of taking things so close to heart on a forum sort of blows my mind, it's so easy to ignore when you don't actually have to deal with it if you choose not to.

Also i like your profile quote "The problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem."

@boosire You disagree with what I said? Very interesting. Considering that previously you have said

Bottom line is: Once in a while, we all, including you, get fed up with the BS so don't come here now pretending otherwise.

Yes there is, especially your unnecessary and at times dumb use of images on every thread. Passive trolling at its best so you get away with it.

The mods might just be trolling you to make you a mod.

Together we can make audiosex great again.

Mmmh where did i mention that i don't partake ? The whole point is that yeah it's a thing but it's not taking the forum over by any means and it's easy to ignore if you choose so.

Yeah i've had my occasional argument because I DECIDED to answer to such a thread, in no way i would leave a place for such petty things though. That's kind of childish, even more so when you make those grandiquolent breakup posts before doing so as i've seen it done a few times here already.

Seems like you work yourself up quite easily here guys, a tougher skin might help. I can't imagine how the real life stuff compares if these banalities shake your pants much already.

Trolls will continue to exist in any way shape or form. That's inevitable. You can push for administration to work harder in stopping these trolls, but in my opinion, that only gives the trolls exactly what they want.

If everyone ignores these trolls they will stop their efforts in trying to get attention, guaranteed.

But in a realistic world those conditions are easier said than done.

How can you say that when you mentioned that you come in once in a while? I am around this forum pretty often so I know for a fact that when one those threads shows up almost all the traffic and participation by members is concentrated there. You are looking at it from a different perspective than I am. I am talking about the attention of the forum gravitating toward those threads. On a different note, I want clarify that this thread this thread is not about those who left. The decision to leave is a personal one and, therefore, should be respected. That was a just a collateral statement I made in the discussion of the issue at hand.

  12. One thing is obvious and it's that: Nobody can enforce changing on the people who don't want to change. The more compulsion, the more resistance.

People need to be trained beforehand to welcome changes by themselves.

    HEY!
What'd I tell you about political statements?

I guess i more or less agree with The Pirate about crazy threads and statements becoming these ongoing arguments but I think it's way better to just not participate in stupidity as opposed to telling people what they can or can't say. People here are pretty thin skinned compared to what I'm used to. Especially by internet standards. You guys would have had an aneurysm if you'd spent time on the prominent hip hop forums in the early 2000s LOL. Or worse, some shit like 4chan

I'm a little surprised by people's unwillingness to just ignore things that are stupid or disagreeable. It's not like you're involved in a conversation where some moron is talking your ear off. You literally have to sit still and actively engage in reading paragraph after paragraph of poorly written, poorly considered, and usually grammatically inscrutable arguments from people you don't know. Most of the time I only find out about these controversial topics because they hover in the "New Posts" section of the navigation tab for ages, since I legitimately only make it through a few sentences of shit like that before my eyes roll back and I suffer temporary brain death

I remember a similar thread many months ago (maybe a couple of years even) when there were a lot of angry and mean spirited topics being started and running to several pages. I said at the time that in my opinion the problem was that the forum had no clearly defined purpose. Yes there are rules concerning behaviour but none about content. Without a clearly defined remit it is almost impossible for the mods to make decisions as to what are acceptable subjects to discuss. Basically they can only close a thread when it becomes obviously abusive and breaks the rules on behaviour.

I agree with @Boosire that is easy enough to ignore topics that are of no interest but the question really is whether we should need to. Whether someone thinks that music, politics, religion etc are somehow linked and are therefore justified maybe a valid argument and not one I have any particular opinion on but without a clear purpose for the forum set out clearly in the rules it is impossible for anyone to judge whether they are valid or not.

So, is this a music forum or a general discussion forum? Not my decision to make but I wish someone would so we all know where we stand.

    Well said.

There's a miscallenous and lounge section in every forum. And no matter where i go there are always controversies in there, ALWAYS. You might just pull the cable or avoid any sort of internet community at this point.

Hell we have similar trolls on my favourite philosophy forum.

    Human nature.

yeah well I've seen many music related posts just get ignored by our "certified musicians"
    they prefer the controversies.
also.. they tend to post unsatisfying responses and instructions for example to make a synth sound. how about being actually "communal" by posting vst presets. instead of pretending like you know it all, dressing shit up.

how about we enforce a proof or it didn't happen thing for advices

    thats my complaint

@MaXe If you are going to continue with your negative rating of my posts, per The Rules you gonna have to provide an explanation for each one.
