Music has only recently been about the groove. If only this informs your definition, you need to read about music history because you are suffering tunnel vision. You are ignorant of what brought music to this point in time. You are in effect a color blind artist.

BRUH, in most cultures music has always been mostly percussive, with the harmonies serving as the background...

The real purpose is for an emotional change to something 'else'.

Beethoven broke ranks and integrated percussion. Study the music of the Renaissance, the Baroque period.... romantic songs of the early twentieth century. You will see why the dawning of the Beatles saw the term "beat music" coined.
The idea that popular cultures based their music on percussion is laughable. Imagine a waltz being performed in Vienna with thumping beats. You too live in a bubble of your own blinkered manufacturing.

Let me be more specific: MOST CULTURES OUTSIDE EUROPE...that means, the rest of the world. Europeans have historically had no interest in rhythm and percussion...you're talking about Waltz in Vienna as if that's the standard for the rest of the world! That's only a tiny part of the planet...

The Beatles didn't coin anything, they PLAGIARIZED Little Richard...The Beatles (the early Beatles), in my eyes, is nothing but a Little Richard cover band.

Who said anything about popular culture? I'm talking about most human beings outside of Europe...in fact, some cultures eschew tonality altogether like Inuit or Mongolian throat-singing (do your include these in your historical narrative?)

Perhaps I mention Europe because that is where the majority of the worlds population lived at that time and along with it came musical change. While Vivaldi was rewriting musical history, tribesman across the world were still hitting things with sticks. And yes, new inventions like the piano saw classical musical become the prominent form and not the log drum. Your argument that rhythm was at the forefront of musical experimentation is fallacious.

bravo... I think you are much more successful when you poke a little fun at yourself in the process instead of
coming across as some kind of professor to enlighten us all through your discourse..and dissertations

dropping the pomp and pretentiousness goes a good way of getting closer to the heart of a matter...

my takeaway... use whatever tools ( FL Studio ? ) you want when you feel like wanking
as long as you get off on it.. :bleh:

Man this thread and others aren't for insulting anyone. Due to variety of views to music (its essence, techniques, cultural support and tastes) these kinds of discussions are unavoidable and we learn lots of things that is impossible just by mere listening to pieces of music or boring tutorials on AZ.:mates:

    um....
i don't mean to be rude it just don't feel like music to me instead, just playing (like G.I joe up in this bitch fool.) lol
    [IMG]
you should play like this when you grow up.

def be yourself in your music but make it feel like there is a reason you made it and a emotional power you have made it with with good intro beginning middle and end (now matter how different it is.)

hey i dont think that is fair to be prejudice when tooloud is just expressing themselves not trying to insult you bro

    {tooloud said:
I live a pretty solitary life in a small town outside Sydney. I've had three nervous breakdowns in my life and due to 17 years of anxiety and depression I'm on a lot of medication which makes me a lazy musician and, as you now know, sometimes I'm just angry about my life and I take it out on decent folks like you on forums.
    Peace my friend.}

in my mind I respect that kind of opening up and being a real person by tooloud

this should be encouraged here not discouraged and used against people.
we dont need to get angry just because we expressing multi facets of music.
