I find this plugin very "educational". You can learn about synths/manufacturers you didn't know existed. You can taste a little bit of them with a few presets. However sound editing is limited. Size is 20 GB.
    You use it a lot?

if i had downloaded it, i had binned it already, Falcon stuff is just waste of space for me. its limited there is no way you can save only presets, but instead need to keep all their huge libraries, since those are encrypted ... gotta hate ilok.

Dumb rompler ... It's just too big for just a collection of samples.
It's like buying a big old analog synth and have all knobs glued ... ;-)

Why not, if they have fun with it and learn something then everything is OK!

I understand why a lot of people do not want Falcon or its libraries. Many people have masses of Kontakt libraries and other respected libraries and as our moderator pointed out, a lot of people do not like iLok as well.

I decided rather than being judgmental even though I can see everyone's personal point of view, to post the base promo. The sounds honestly are as good as any other synth sounds. No I do not have this library but the promo indicates the sound quality well enough.

I guess it comes down to personal preference.
As for romplers vs samplers vs original keyboards - if you have all of the real hardware synths from the latter it may well be better in quality but few people do have them or can afford to maintain them, let alone find an electronics engineer with the skills to replace and fix parts.

Yeah, I would rather have control. If I want a documentary on them, there's YT for that.

You can have too many sounds I do not care what anyone says.

Arturia Analog LAB vs Synth Anthology

Arturia used to have ridiculously bad loading times but fixed it. Falcon does not pre-load every synth on loading, it loads per synth/patch choice, Arturia loads the lot ready for immediate usage.

Unless you like hoarding there is no point having multiple synth libraries of the same type. Even Acustica Audio is getting into this realm but honestly, overpriced when you consider what you get from other Synth VST/AAX developers.

Most libraries that have nearly every synth since inception will not be much smaller than 20GB if they were sampled properly.

It's purely subjective, but when I'm looking for a specific synth sound, Falcon and Synth Anthology in particular often seem to have the answer. I also have the Arturia V collection and regularly use it for its deeper editing capabilities, but for presets I just seem to have better luck with Falcon.

Yeah, that's certainly the annoying part about using Falcon. I've made track presets for the libraries and presets I use the most to avoid it really.

UVI’s problem is that they program all the sounds themselves, then sample those. They don’t use presets (copyright reasons, I guess), even for ROMplers or vintage samplers.

And all their sounds end up sounding the same. Yes it’s always a huge list of synths with pretty GUIs, but it’s always the same bells, pads, strings, harsh leads (who uses these?!), cliched dingly dangly arps, digital clav sounds and the same Toto synth brass.

The problem with SA is also that a lot of the presets seem to have some sort of an Fattener/Exciter on by default, which makes them sound too huge in a mix.

Their later libraries have improved a bit, but this is why I stopped using them. And the reason I don’t subscribe to SonicPass is because all the instruments are so massive in size - tens of GB each.

i tried the FM library, i liked one preset, but keep this for 36GB - i dont like it.

quality is alright, but i also dont like the GUI of Falcon.

now with Nexus you can atleast delete presets if you find out the sample aswell and samples are not a huge monolith file.

I agree about having to much sounds/presets or whatever ...

A better option is to use Arturia and sample it with something like HALion to get the presets and sounds YOU want...

I agree. The foot print of this thing is way too large for me. When it first came out (on the sister site), I really liked it and used it for a while... but now I just would rather use the couple of hardware synths I have, and then things like GForce's stuff (impOSCar3 is :headbang:), Serum, Arturia v Collection, u-he's stuff, etc.

I don't bother with any of the large VSTs anymore. I haven't even looked at Nexus 5, even, and I while I liked Omnisphere 2, it isn't getting installed again. They aren't huge plugins, but I don't really need/use them for what I do. I got a new drive at Christmas and reinstalled windows and all my plugins, and trimmed a lot of the fat. I still have Kontakt libraries kicking around, but that's only because I don't have a synthesizer that can make amazing orchestral sounds.. so those get to stay in case I need them again one day. :)

That all said, different strokes for different folks.. if you like it @ricbm710, use it!

I used to have Kontakt and couldn't resist the new GigyByte powerful sound libraries. The older I got, the more I deleted. I then gave up NI Kontakt altogether and have never regretted deleting the data.

On the contrary, I devote more time to software synthesizers, of which we now have a lot, and I have also reduced my hardware synthesizers considerably. The result is more space in the room, a better workflow and a better overview.

We now live in a time of excess music and music devices / plugins and everyone can decide for themselves how to shape their own future. I have created separate folders for all synthesizers in which I save the presets I use.

    Don't forget to make backups...!
