I like to do vocals the 'right' way but mostly 'my' way.

I love FX. I always start with two clone tracks.
Maybe a slight shimmer of chorus on the original. Then for the duplicate I might widen/delay/octave-up.
Overlap them, add subtle dirt and compression. Then the final EQ.
I might add subtle gating or chopping to the second 'backing' vocal.

Thats my for fun recipe anyway.

I still prefer the analogue way, SSL Channel Compressor, avalon vt-737, urei 1176, vox box and massiv passiv are perfect for vocal editing. For reverb i recommend a EMT 250, M6000 or RC 450.

Toft ATC-2 is nice for vocals too, and affordable.

I think nectar's got some good presets. But nothing more than that. I think the compression & reverb suck and those are quite essential. I think you're still better off doing everything yourself. But take a look at all the antares plugins (not just auto tune) you can get some cool effects with them. Still, I don't really have a favorite plugin. I just use what suits best! ;)

After trying all the different plugins for years I only use few now:
Pro-q as the first insert for notching/cleaning.
Comp, mostly combination of NI VC76 into VC 2A (sometimes replaced by a TubeTech CL1B)
Deeser (mostly C1 side chain for 7 and 3k)
AND,,,,, Nuendo channel EQ. KILLER sound. Very aggressive, brings me to the point in couple of seconds.

    :)

is Waves Cla-2A enough on vocal??i think it just catches the peaks and doesn't push the vocals.just catches the peaks.any body have this problem? after using CLA-2A i usually use another compressor to bring the lowest part of the vocals up.what do you think?
