I feel like I didnt get the conclusion of this video , what is the real application of linear phase eqs ? , parallel processing drums with linear phase eqs is impossible due to pre ringing , I tried using fabfilter pro q3 in linear phase mode in parallel processing of vocals and honestly it sounded worse than natural phase mode I only noticed really small difference in maximum linear phase mode which is unusable , its playback delay is very long

I only use an eq plugin in linear phase for mastering. Never prior.

Preserving phase is mainly important for mastering, whole mixes, maybe stems. LP EQ usually have big latency, so they're hardly usable during mixing, but especially tracking when you need very low latency. Analogue EQs cannot be linear phase, and people used them for a looong time, and coped with a little phase offset which can actually be useful if you know how it works.

So generally, it is meant for transparent duties, and wide bands with up to +-6dB at the most work best to avoid pre-ringing artifacts.

    Cheers!

on drums: sometimes the phase incoherencies sound worse than pre-ringing artifacts (its a trade off like always), some producers even use pre-ringing artifacts as sound design tool
on vocals: you usually dont use lin phase while producing so the latency is unimportant, its usually a last resort tool for when engineers think that their parallel chain introduces some phase problems that doesnt sound pleasant
