I'm 43 and I can hear until about 14.3khz in my studio monitors at 80 dbA but can hear until about 17 khz in my headphones in a blind test.

After a few quick test today, my ENT doctor told me that considering my age, it's very good and that there's nothing I can do to better my hearing but can only keep on taking care of the level I monitor music.

I've always been a bit paranoid about hearing loss and always kept my level down especially on headphones and earphones. I also have a hard time staying to long in concert venues as it seems that it's made for people that are totally deaf or like distortion to an unbearable level.

How's your ear health?

 

I'm dealin' with a 10 khzTinnitus since about 20 years so: don't ask ...

 

im in my mid 20s but the last time I tested with not so good headphones I arrived at around 16k

 

12K. I'm 67.
I like to listen to things vey loud on my monitors. Almost never use headphones.
Concert levels are too high for sure. I struggle, need to wear protection.

 

Is this even a valid test? A quick check with yt-dlp returns that 128kbps@48kHz opus is the best audio quality this video has available.

That said, I'm nearing 28, but I can still go up to 18khz despite having tinnitus in my left ear since I was a teenager.

 

I'm 45 and still can hear until 16800 hz, then the sound gets lost on my multiples tinnitus ringings that sit on that freq and higher so I cannot tell anymore if I'm hearing the beep or just my tinnitus. I've also mild hyperacusis with a little noxoacusis from time to time so my ear health is garbage. If you are having hard time staying long on concert avenues, use protections or don't attend at all. But even with the best protections around low frequencies will hit you hard no matter what. Trust me on this. Noxoacusis is a hard bitch to live with and it seems your tolerance threshold is being reduced already.

 

I'm 42 and using the video you posted, assuming it's accurate, can hear 21Hz up to about 19/19.25kHz. I'm happy with that considering I do have a tendency to listen to stuff quite loudly

 

If accurate, this test helped me narrow the frequency of my tinnitus down since the last perceivable pause/play difference was around 16.4k after which it reached the pitch of and joined my consistent ear ringing.

I think that the real question is : Do your equipement translates these high frequencies?
and then reach your precious ears!!

The "Logic" sine oscillator is a more reliable test IMO. I am 62 and can hear up to 13.5k. The good old days of hearing the horizontal line scan clock (about 15 KHz) of CRT monitors are over.

 

I would suggest doing a yearly check at your local ENT clinic if avail. It's not that expensive and help prevent many Ear / nose and throat issues. That's where I had my test done yesterday.

If not, please feel confident to use whichever test you want to use and monitor your loss if your ears health is of any concern to you.

My result were delivered in a form of Audiogram and the test was done with me doing different grading of how loud I could hear different frequencies. She then presented the result to me and we sat and talked about it.

As other user pointed out, she advise me to get some ear protection. She suggested a set of 200$ custom made ordered from her clinic or at least get some ear plugs from the pharmacy when visiting loud venues.

I decided to get my ear print done and will decide if I want to throw 200$ at their custom ear plugs. Probably not as I don't appreciate crowdy places and everytime I go to a concert, unless I have a balcony for myself or about, It always remember me why I hate those places and the horrible sound quality coming out of these shows. It's a bit like going to see the Formula one live at a GP. As much as I'm a fan of F1, It's plain stupid to sit there watching cars go by not being too sure who's who. I prefer my couch haha.

I am 50 soon and my range is ~26Hz to about 18.2K. My last hearing check put me at 17.8K which for my age isn't so bad.

Why the difference, probably either hinting from the room, SPL or my monitors might be brighter than what was at the ENT office.

The sweep on YT does actually resolve and I got about the same values ( a little higher actually but only by a few 100HZ probably because of the aliasing) than on a generated clean sine sweep in RX.

None of this is diagnostic though as the quality, hinting from reflections and the frequency responses of everyone's equipment is going to vary greatly.

If you really want to know go see a specialist.

 

24yo here and I hear nothing above 16kHz at a comfortable listening level. My sweep drops off like a steep LP filter, perhaps 12-24dB/oct.
Anything above that disappears and what's left is a constant noisy tinnitus in both ears. A visit to a ENT/HNO doctor sounds like a plan, getting sick of this noise.

 

About 16k. Considering i'm a dog, that's pretty worrysome.

Now, i've never done a proper test, and i'm pretty sure my ears are full of wax (or a spider is living in there), so in the right conditions i might go a bit higher. Maybe. Pearhaps.

 

17k (I can still hear those annoying damn arc lighters). I do have a couple of dB's of hearing loss around 3-4k though.

 

All of you AudioSexers, your hearing is all messed up. That is why all your mixes sound like shit, and can't make a living off of music. I have the best hearing lowest 100, highest 101. Makes mixing pretty easy. Go ahead and ask @No Avenger He will corroborate that I am correct.
