that's because the incas and rome didn't have plastic and styrofoam like we do!!
as you can see a simple plastic bag/ bottle could take up to a thousand years to decompose. Now imagine something bigger made out of solid plastic, maybe a shitty mic stand... will take much more than a couple thousand years...
styrofoam is the worst as it may never decompose.
I believe the physical trash is an actual problem we gonna have to deal with later!!

The digital trash however, theres always someone hoarding it. As years go by, each MB is getting cheaper and cheaper to store. Probably gonna be harder to find but pretty sure there will be people with backed up hard drives.

 

I hate to think about it, I'm very attached with my software. my go to is have some external hard drives (hdd) and do my backups there, such as media and setups of sofware I use or have used that I know that work and are clean out of viruses. I even have some OS isos from windows. ideally if you put me 30 years into the future and I have a computer and my backups I should be able to install al those things without even internet connection.
that's kind of a goal to me.

 

everything decomposes, regardless of what your reliable sources may tell you. Is the universe full of styrofoam? I rest my case. put some acetone in a styrfoam cup and see what happens..

the amount of trash the average joe can generate, even a million or billion average joes, dwarfs in comparision to industrial metal mining waste. sorry you can't guilt me over a styrofoam coffee cup, i think I'll buy a box of a thousand off amazon today..

 

i'm not trying to guilt you into anything just wanted to say after a couple hundred years our trash is still gonna be here
you buy whatever you want, i really dc what you do with your money.
PS: if you put acetone in styrofoam then you are simply making a chemical reaction, not making the styrofoam disappear. youre simply making more trash, solid, liquid, air into atmosphere, still trash...

Earth would end as a nuclear radiactive wasteland for millions of years. That's likelihood, would be time to leave before? I would carry my hdds full of warez for the space travel. Promise!

 

i thought stryofoam was stable and didn't break down for 500 years...but acetone destroys it in seconds.. i'm just sayin don't beleive everything your read online or hear from approved media.

 

its rather obvious to verify if the nature of things is for trash to become dust, as there is rather a lot more dust in the world than trash, and though civilizations rise and fall I've yet to find a Coca Cola bottle from the Persian Empire, or even a spear for that matter.

I believe storage/cost will drop and become very cheap later, we used to have a 512mb ram inside our computer and now we can get 64 and more, in like 2 years we should start to see RERAM SSD wich will be very cheap and raise the capacity to another level, there is also DNA Memory wich give insane capacity of storage but is far from ready, tho i bet in 10 years we'll see the first DNA SSD, well the internet is not running out of storage soon, what is more concerning is the changes in what should be deleted and what should not, les take YTP videos for example, it was toilet humor with randomness and sometime questionnable jokes, a lot of it got deleted as today youtube had become more strict on what is humor and what is not.

So if you like anything from a song, a movie or a software, make sure to archive it.

the trouble with DNA memory, is hackers can turn your computer into a rhinocerus by flipping a few bits. self replicating proteins are dangerous in the wrong hands..
