What will happen after 30 years? After 50 years?
Digital "Trash" I mean all the digital stuff. Usefull, nice but also cheesy and useless but funny or inspiring for example.
So there is some value to it.
We still have access to cheesy 90s/00s software, games, music and videos.
But Now We are at the beginning. Around 20 years after those digital stuff was starting to be released.
We are lucky. We was there when it all started. And now after around 20 years isn't that much time.
We still have access to almost everything from the beginning of this Digital Madness.

But what will happen after another 20, 30, 50 years from now?
We have more and more content everyday.
    Thousand of cracking teams releases.
Thousands of software, games, videos, tutorials, songs and music videos.
And now AI generated content has been added to this pool.

More and more stuff is disappearing from the internet.
We can get those stuff only if someone archivising those, making backups on the hard drives or DVDs.
But if those hard drives or DVDs will be corrupted or in the worst case scenario people which collecting this stuff die.
    Is it gone forever then?

What about music videos, songs and other stuff? There are thousands and thousands new stuff.
Nowadays all of these is mainly uploaded on youtube.
Even many proffesional ones. Look at VEVO for example.
What if the youtube servers will be corrupted one day?
What if google drive will be corrupted one day?
What if the internet will die?
    The question is:
Is the artists should carry about their releases and make backups of all their songs, music videos and content? Or there are companies which carry about it?

Is developers should carry about their software?

Nowadays we have github site for developers which is great.
But what if github will die one day?

What will happen with sister site after 30 years from now?
Are we should starting preserving things from it?

Maybe cracking teams should re-releasing old but still usefull stuff for preservation etc.?

In my opinion. We shouldn't depend on cloud storages and servers only, We should make backups offline.
But where is sweet spot between carrying and compulsive collecting?

AND REMEMBER - SHARING IS CARRYING :mates:

Life is a cycle, creation and destruction is part of the universe, like hindu's legends about Shiva the destroyer and the God of Destruction, and also:
    • God of Time
    • Lord of Yogis
    • The Cosmic Dancer
    • Patron of Yoga, Meditation and Arts
    • Master of Poison and Medicine

There will be a massive book burning that gets rid of all history so we are no longer burdened by it and can start everything again. Art, culture, politics, everything. Burn it all so we can find something new.

I have old stuff recorded and bought on VHS, CDs, DVDs, Laser Discs, audio tapes and DATs.
    Issues:
CDs: golden CDs burned in 1997-1999 at 1X speed are still readble. CDs burned at high speed are having issues.
DVDs: bought DVDs have no issues. Burned DVDs at low speed are readable. The ones burned at high speed are no longer readble or having a lot of issues. I had to backup all the good one and dump all the other.
Laser Discs: I no longer have a player. My LD collection is unusable now.
DATs: I still have the DAT tape device but I don't know if it is still working. The last time I used it was under Windows NT4. I Don't think I care much if it no longer works
VHS: Tape player died a while ago.I had to buy a new one with a S-Video output to digitize all my media. The media were Music Videos
Tapes: same here. I did a backup of all the music recorded from the FM radio in the 80s. I also have Amstract CPC tapes I have converted as well. Some of the tapes do have issues but this is not a big deal. most the softwaez for the computer are available online.
PD650 (Rewritable Optical Disk) were still readable at the time I tested them.

Do I watch and played what I have recorded? mostly because it is part of my childhood or they bring me memories...

In 2050 no need for such software, for example, most stuff will be discontinued etc. Become free. Or more new releases. By 2050 you will about 60 or more digital clean eqs, 200 versions of 1176 etc.... More and more plugins, more developers....
I think in 2050 all you need is AI.
Or maybe one synth, one plugin, one daw, maybe samples.
Or AI emulating all that shit, such as vsti, vst, samples..... Who knows.. Future is weird, imho..

So I should treat art, digital entertainment and other like a some kind of food product with an expiration date?
Eat it, relish and forget until I will be hungry again?

It is not that stupid. Look. I have many examples like this and you too for sure.
Music for example. I have many songs which are connected with specific situation, people or time.
And I don't wanna listen now those songs all the time. There was a time period in the past when I was listening to those songs a lot.
I have specific memories and feelings connected to them and I wanna listen to them only in special occasions like candlelight dinner with old wine, you don't make it everyday for example when I feel nostalgic and I wanna recall some things more deeply I am listening then to those songs.
So is it that far away from food product with an expiration date?
Every thing has individual expiration date in our heads.
But for me as a "collectioner" or "unhealthy collectioner" is harder to accept this and let go things which are emotionally connected with me.

Quad Eight consoles were da thing on the US 70's before API and its 550 EQ's showed up. Then, no one cared about Quad Eight and API's become a standard for the 80's on US. And we are talking about analog stuff. Same thing with the REDD Tube Consoles being replaced by EMI TG's on Abbey Road.

I think it's not a user worry if softwares became obsolete by one time, because this tends to happen with every kind of tech, not only digital stuff. The point with digital is that you can't hold the product on your hands, and if the product is discontinued you can't get support for that, unlike analog were you can replace broken tubes, capacitors, etc...

And making backups on physical drives is a must if you care about your digital stuff. Having a comunnity were you can request old stuff like the Sister Site is amazing. You can find a lot of OG AKAI samples being constantly re-uped there, so more people can hold and supply to re-up it again in case it get lost on the dust of time.

People will personally archive things they have an interest in so anything of importance should be archived by someone, somewhere. If I want, say, Leather Goddesses of Phobos by Infocom, someone has it.

Who among us does not have a few terabytes of "try before you buy" dating back a decade or two, ammiright
    We do the vsts...

I learned a long time ago after spending thousands on production-ware, my "try" before buy is eternal and the "buy" is chucked in the weeds.

Apparently it's a fancy way of saying your bag of fucks becomes completely empty.

    bag of fucks? empty?
    I mean full.
It is a joke about VST's hoarding. I would prefer to stop this uncontrolled stuff accumulation (in general), so I like to practice MINIMALISM. Do you remember the squirrel of ICE AGE?

im guessing none of this will exist very shortly. we are in the golden age of electronic music production. soon it will all be replaced and become obsolete. im more concerned about the actual trash. the landfills of rotting batteries and electronic waste.

"Diogenes syndrome, also known as senile squalor syndrome, is a disorder characterized by extreme self-neglect, domestic squalor, social withdrawal, apathy, compulsive hoarding of garbage or animals, plus lack of shame."
--- that's the wiki entry... sounds like not giving a fuck to me lol I see you're tying into the hoarding aspect.

I think sometimes about the purpose of any of this... we think of the works of Mozart, Shakespeare, Plato as things that endure, that give them immortality. But in time all of it will be lost. Nothing will outlive the entropy of the universe and creations that last thousands of years will not even exist in the spaces between frames in the movie of all time.
