Well, this topic is on full war right now due to Sony, I think. Like, forget about physical for PS6, no matter how much you pay. It obviously applies to all kinds of software, and even hardware. A bit OT, but worth mentioning because obviously is bad news for consumers

I agree with you, Windows 10\11 due to the lack of SecureDisk libraries will no longer run many classic games from the '90s and early 2000s, and Sony wants you to have nothing and be happy. Even in new cars you now have subscriptions for heated seats, soon they will introduce subscriptions for the use of water and air :trolls: I don't like this direction, that's why I buy physical games, music and movies.

This is true, but I also have an archive of ISO files, emulators, and ROMS. The chances of me reverting back to them are slim though, so I'll enjoy using tethered Steam and online multiplayer games for until then. I'm not a hardliner on any side. It's about balance for me.

@iswingwood I am a member of a certain retro gaming community, often going back to old computers and consoles. But what's been happening lately is shocking everyone in the negative sense of the word. I would write **** Sony, but I would get banned for hate speech :metal:

Yeah. It's bad no matter what. I barely game lately, but I grew up with the C64, Amiga, first MS-DOS games and other platforms you say. I can only imagine what's being said in veteran gamers communities like that.
Nah, you'd be fine. The proof: I'm still here

I dug tom clancy's wildlands out again there's an 4K update for the series x and i have to say it looks pretty good for a 2017 game my tv displays the frame rate with some games who support it and it hovers between roughly 75 and 110 fps so it's a nice update i spend 100+ hours playing this game.

I think I'm apart of that same community (quite a few actually). Yet, someone on reddit once provide every retro game for every retro system in a single link. From N64 and back to the beginning. I have yet to explore 1% of it.

Or grab those AAA titles (which I usually don't play, but occasionally do) at FitGirl :) But yah, GOG makes the most sense since that's DRM free. I personally tend to not care though, and just use Steam more because I like the store format. I completely understand the uproar over how licensing/ownership is handled though. It is definitely harder to sell digital games, that's the one downside for me. I'm personally content with how I 'own' them outside fo that problem though.

I don't really miss the old days of discs, so I actually prefer digital downloads even though it costs me more to maintain my library. Different strokes for different folks, but I completely understand why people such as yourself hate how things are today.

BTW, my videogaming experience goes back a long ways too. What I do miss is that feeling I got when first getting into games... Intelivsion/Atari, Infocom's text adventures, text based games on BBSes, point and click games (Sierra's stuff, Monkey Island, etc..), the first time I played an MMORPG (Ultima Online).. games with 8-bit/16-bit/worse graphics (I still play those though), etc. I know I can still do many or all of these things, but it's hard to recreate those new feelings/experiences I had as a kid.

It all started for me when I was six if I recall correctly with an 8086 10 mhz 512 kb ram, 20 mb hard drive yeah, that was something else test drive, space quest, space Invaders, prince of persia. After that, I got the nes, sega, and snes, followed by a pentium 1 with games like carmageddon and fifa 96 which still had indoor soccer, grand prix 2 was my addiction I played it at least four hours a day. Then came the pentium 3 with quake, shadow man and kingpin which was a real hit back the and not forgetting red faction, where you could use noclip and nogravity modes on online servers usually, things like that are strictly serverside, but not in that game.
but in recent years, I’ve just lost interest. I used to spend entire evenings playing fifa against a buddy of mine yeah, those were the days.

i am also slowly loosing interest in gaming. my belief is when we were children our brains understood gaming in a different way. not like now. although gaming is amazing barely anything new released today is worth playing.

I used to play only multiplayer pc games, super seriously and competitively.
Even if I had time for the sort of commitment that's required to do that, I just don't give a shit anymore lol
Doesnt mean i stop gaming though... especially games which lets you save the game state, and you can return to it whenever you want. :guru:

i see gaming now as a waste of time. what did you get? entertainment? yeaa. i mostly replaced my gaming time with music production time and regular job. However.. it feels like the old games 1996 - 2010 are still the best i never get tired of them. new games are just graphically superior... and thats it. most have not changed, just the new super expensive graphics cards with ray tracing etc.. i wonder what is next..

maybe a.i is getting more into games now?
