I downloaded a sample pack but its not what I expected. There are a lot of these .r(number) files like .r00, .r01, .r02 etc. They have .bin files inside. What magic should I use to turn them into normal sound files?

 

RAR-files (split up). Unzip the RAR-file with WinRAR.

It is called a spanned rar collection. It's the content of the release compressed to rar format and split into many smaller rar files for the sake of easier distribution. All you need to do is:
Install a softie that unpacks rar files like WinRar.
Once installed WinRar integrates with the Windows shell and any rar of other format compressed archive like .zip for instance, will open with WinRar automatically once you double click it.
To unpack your collection you need to double click the first in the hierarchy. Usually its the once that has no number and is just .rar. This will unpack all files in a row automatically. Sit back and relax because depending on the size of the release this will take from seconds to several minutes or even hours if we 're talking hunderdss of gigabytes.

I didnt know about spanned rar collection but I definitely know about archive files for more than decade. The extension .r(number) is confusing and they have either .bin, .cue or both and nothing else. Also when I tried to extract archives which have icon, I got a window which says that .r30 needs to be extracted. These files after .r29 cant be opened when theyre extracted and when I try to extract a file from them theres always window which requires some other .r(number) file... I literally never had this type of problem.

 

You may have to highlight them all, then double click the actual .rar archive. If it still asks for another file, it's because you are missing that .r29 or whatever. If that file does exist in the same folder, try to extract it separately first. Then reselect and extract all. Make sure your Winrar is up-to-date. It has to be the complete archive with no missing or corrupted pieces, or it will not extract successfully.

If it prompts you to go to the next file, that's what you should do. And it will do that all the way until the end or until you have a piece missing or corrupt.

 

Choose all the "R" files at the same time as well as extracting them as one big group. If r29 is holding you back either try to repair it using WINRAR of re-download it as it is corrupted. Also, if you trust the source then turn off your security software while extracting.

right mouse click on the .rar file and select extract here
the bin and cue file is for a cd burning program
the cue is the table of contents and the bin is the actual content
use Daemon Tools or similar virtual disk mounters to mount it as a cd

 

Well mate, you don't. These are rarparts. Extract the main .rar and it'll automatically catch up all the other ones. Then you can delete them.

 

I had this "recovery record not found" error before and then I had to do something IRL and put my pc on sleep. After I came back and tried exact same thing (extracting the first one) everything suddenly worked without errors and I opened that .cue file with daemon. Who would guess that putting pc on sleep would fix the problem... Finally I found what I was searching for, thanks for help!

 

You open the .rar and extract it's content.
You don't have to deal with the multipart files of the archive. Your winrar or 7zip or kega (keka? Not a mac guy) will extract all content that is spanned over that multipart archive.
All you have to do is
1) make sure you got all parts
2) have all parts in the same path (location, directory that is)
That's all.
Just ignore rXX, as you would do with the more modern multipart rar naming method where it is part1 to x

 

Yeah I remember extracting multi archives which had part1, part2 etc. This is basically the same thing with different name.

 

extract only .rar file (without any numbers), others will follow automatically, and if anything breaks you got corrupt archive

 

First extract the main archive. I mean "80659.rar". You''ll get a folder with splitted parts.
Then unpack .rar and all .r.. files that you extracted earlier. Start with .rar file.

If you get errors, it's possible that your entire archive or one of splitted parts are corrupted.

Try different achiving programs. 7Zip, PeaZip etc.

 

Before we add another page or two of unarchiving strategies, he posted above that it is already fixed. Mark solved maybe?

No-one would guess this, because it is not what happened. Something fixed it, but it certainly was not this.
