Bloggers and labels slap "future" on anything old they want to promote - house with synth brass and fm bass - future house; bass house - there were things called fidget and speed garage that were basically the same; future bass - downtempo with more synth chords... So much innovation, omg, I'm thrilled... look at the cool "new" genres; trap - electronic hip-hop with shittier sounds like fm, formant and high pitched noises - such a revolution in music... tropical house - normal house with sparse latino percussion and maybe flutes... anything with "wave" - 80s gated reverb and analog synths and VHS low-fi quality sound.

What's next - future rock'n'roll, future jazz, future 8bit keygen music???

My favorite genre title? "Future Retro." :dunno: (Ot, as it's known in some circles "New Old," which, obviously, isn't as catchy.)
On a serious note, I find that whether it's Pop, Hip Hop, EDM or Rock, there is, what I feel to be, an unhealthy need to specify exactly what a band/artist is to the point of microanalysis, with some people even going on an album to album basis. A friend of mine really likes U2 and, according to her, they went from Punk Rock to New Wave to Pop to Rock to Experimental to Rock and back to Pop in their career and has their albums listed, individually, under said genres. I'd like to believe that I have better ways of spending my time than meticulously organizing my entire 1TB music collection by genre on an album to album basis.
Also, I'm okay with people saying. "It has an East Coast, Hip Hop vybe to it," or something, as the title of the sub-genre gives a person an idea of what something sounds like, but when you *constantly have to use bands or artists *to describe the title of a sub-genre,* even after years of the sub-genres inception, maybe it should just be kept under the umbrella of a larger genre. Just my two cents....

I am sooooo glad that I no longer have the time, energy or inclination to chase the next big thing, but rather just be.
