Just finished mastering my debut album and released my very first single.

The song sounds great with lyrics, drums, vocals, stereo imaging and panning but I just didn't feel the bassline whether the snippet we get to hear has any or not I'm not sure. I would suggest A/B your track against one similar and checking some of the lower frequencies. Although I'm partially deaf I still normally feel it and hear the lower frequencies but I would see what others say rather than myself as my mixes aren't the best and something I struggle with too. But everything else seems great. Hopefully you'll get some more feedback from others with more experience and better hearing. Keep up the great work

 

Thanks man, I kinda have to agree. Something seems to be masking the frequencies in the lower end and they kinda disappear. Wish I got your advice before releasing. The full tracks there too along with the preview, if you click whatever platform and doesn't sound as bad but yeah, shoulda gave a little extra boost in the low end

 

You're very welcome and cheers I've checked out the full track on YT and feel the same. The Kick is nice but just missing a bassline along side it. I'm not sure what DAW you are using but there's a great plugin in Cubase called Frequency2 and I'm sure theres a similar one in Waves and possibly FabFilter too which allows you to make room and change Mid/Sides and setup multiple Side Chain sources to triggers from other instruments in the track which are not as important to be ducked or moved to the sides. Check out Dom Sigalis video explaining it better than I could.

Sounds good to me ALAC from Apple Music.

The bass is kind of right for this genre, Vox is a bit too modern and upfront but I feel like you feel whatever it is your selling and it sounds fine. We probably have some aesthetic differences but there is nothing wrong with your sound, so I am not going to feed your insecurities by injecting my preferences into your work. Nothing sticks out as an obvious error, everything seems on purpose and really at the end of the day that's what you are aiming for.

Job well done. I would just take the compliments and move onto the next one.

Not up on what's what in the land of Scotch so I don't get what it's about and as far as forum rules are concerned I am not even going to ask.
