i change strings all the time normally my strings dont get old enough to need cleaning or lube pluss i think treated strings are tone killers so generally. i dont use them but... if i do it would be GSH fast fret i use that only for ease of aplication carring a bottle of mineral oil round is an accident waiting to happen

Rarely use it, but when I do I use "FINGER EASE". I like clean guitar stings and dirty bass strings. :)

Hi, guitarist here. I use motor oil, I have one Jazzmaster that I use to record and it has the same strings since October last year but they're still looking new, they haven't even started to deteriorate.

Edit: idk if my commentary sounded funny but I'm actually being serious, if you're in doubt try it yourself lol.

    I do oil my nuts.

Yeah, just had to get that out there, but really, I mean it. Just a little bit though, especially if it's a new nut, a set of strings in different gauges than what has usually been in the guitar, or if I'm planning on dicking about with the tuning a bit.

Helps with the tuning, helps with the nut and the strings to settle. And maybe it's just me, since it can even the distribution of string tension a bit, it helps strings not break often. But I'm not a luthier so that might be just my magical thinking and folk wisdom.

A little bit of graphite from rubbing a sharpened pencil in the slot has been working for me for many a year.

KY Jelly. It works great when I'm using the wife's Rampant Rabbit as an Ebow.

If you want them to last a long time, then use the coated ones, other than that get used to replacing them when they get dull.

a combination of any string cleaner available to get all the shit out of the strings then add a coat of Dunlop 65 ultraglide for lubrication.

I think you might've taken the guitar-guitarrist relationship a bit too far.

You're a guitarist (like all of us in this thread...), so it's a given that you don't wash your hands. And you probably play with your fingers.

This is a solved problem, see?

None, I hate the slippery feel lubricants give to the strings.
Received GHS Fast Fret as a gift some time ago. I used it once or twice and it made me miss notes, especially on chord changes or slides because I couldn't stop my fingers in the correct/intended spot.

Also the grease that transfers to my fingers from the lubricated strings remains on my fingers and rubbing it off constantly (especially while recording multiple guitar takes in a row and needing to use my laptop in between takes) is too much effort.

Mostly, I just wash my hands before playing but I occasionally use the MusicNomad String Fuel device to clean strings.
    Looks like a deodorant stick.
Also use it on the backs of my satin guitar neck finishes for a silky smooth slide.
The trick is to wipe it off with a microfiber cloth after applying to take off dirt and cleaner.
For my ebony fretboards I use white mineral oil from the hardware store :)
I apply it with a disposable blue Wypall and clean it with fresh Wypall.

I wash my hands before and after playing.
Keeps the greese to a minimum and also seems to reduce the hard calluses on my finger tips.

If I was gonna use and oil I guess it would be WD40 since it's a mix of oils. High chain oils to brake down oxidation and evaporate. short chain oils to create a barrior. Spray it on the cloth and rub it in?

Never tried, I just wash my hands and change strings every couple of months
