I keep hearing all the time about Reaper being crazy customizable, but so far I was only able to find custom themes. Which was way less than what I was expecting.
How does customization work on Reaper exactly? What are the things you can _REALLY_ customize?
Because if it's just a marketing thing, or a rumor spread by fanboys (like the Dorico-Cubase integration) I'll never again take anyone recommending Reaper seriously.

It's been too long since i used any other DAW (continuously) for me to tell how much of Reaper's customization is unique and what is standard these days. I think the strongest points regarding customization (besides themes and other visual stuff) are actions and scripts, but it'll take a more hardcore Reaper user to explain how far can that go.

functionality of Reaper is defined by Actions, you can make Custom Actions:

you can then make custom Toolbars:

    as well as custom Menus:

    custom Mouse Modifiers:

if that's not enough you can go full into scripting and do literally anything, especially with combination of AI it can be rather simple even for beginners:

about Themes, not only you can find them, you can make them:

    nice!
I mostly just tweak views/windows/layouts, maybe few actions like so:

"problem" with Reaper is, customizations are so limitless it's really difficult to use Reaper in guest studios with different configs, so I actually try to learn using just defaults if possible

Well... it's definitely not marketing, it's perhaps 80% of the reason I use Reaper. If you can get pass vanilla Reaper and learn the basics of actions/scripts/themes I assure you it will be rewarding.
