Exactly, and I have seen that.
If you are doing orchestral stuff try Sonoris compresser. It is one of the most neat and cleanest I have tried so far. No change in dynamics.

u-he Presswerk for Drums. For general purpose I would say Pro C 2 and NI VC series / Waves CLA compressors

Studio One's native compressor works for 99% of my compression tasks. Really.

I don't like using character compressors anymore, except for rare occasions.

If I want to add harmonics/distortion to something, I'd rather use a dedicated plug-in like Decapitador or SDRR for that.

    The same goes for EQs.

That being said, my favorite character compressor is Presswerk, pretty much because I can make it sound like anything I want.

I almost cried the first time i put SDRR on a piano and strings.
Together with some tape emulators i could swear that piece was written/recorded on 100% analog equipment.

I believe I've already sung C165a's praises, but forgot to mention how much I'm loving Logical3 by Airwindows. Really diggin' it on the mixbus these days.

I don't like using compression just for the sake of using it, but if I need to add some missing OOOMF to a track, I'll add a tube saturator such as the exceptional one from Wave Arts.

Funny you should say that, I was just looking at the Plogue Bidule page . . . If I ever leave Logic I'll be taking all my Airwindows AU plugs with me thanks to Bidule - there are just too many I find irreplaceable.

@returnal yeah thanks for the tip man..I'm a windows user I didn't know those plugs, I've just tried slew and console4 and those are great, great plugs. The guy has a great spirit too, I'll try to support him.
