true, even tho one should know what the differences are between lets say fabfilter and your DAWs stock EQ

(this is the narrator from fabfilters official youtube channel btw)
in my opinion, after knowing the basics of EQ usage in theory and praxis you should do a test run with all EQs that look interesting for you to sort them after usability, GUI, latency, CPU usage and of course the sound so you can fit the EQs that suit you the best

  2. The sounds of 1970 and even earlier were produced by some of the most prized, lauded and sought after hardware on the market then as they are today. Many producers will choose 50 year old tube compressors or equalizers for their particular tone instead of, as you say 'the subtle new tools' assuming of course they can afford them. Personally I would rather have a 50 year old Neve desk than a new Neve style plugin.

I agree @Lenny Belardo , and you can also make music without a computer
All the old producers would dream of having the equipment we have today.
For years their main goal has been to have the cleanest sound possible.
Today, we are trying to dirty it at all costs.
I'm curious, I would like to know what you are using?

  4. A nearly 50 year old Minimoog. Various old valve compressors. A&H digital Console. Original NS-10's. My gear spans almost as much time as I do. The gear is holding up better though.

  6. You are quite right about one thing Shankar. Uwanted noise is no longer a problem. Digital has given us clean sound, which also unmasks our errors. Loose, sloppy recordings and performances were once acceptable. Now only perfection is permitted and we are in constant agony asking ourselves if our mixes are good enough.
