Here is a small drum loop:

Does anyone recognize the instrument used as a percussion, behind the kick drum?

Not sure, could be a small Djembe or a Darbouka.

  4. I'm fairly certain it is a Darbouka. I have one that I play regularly so am familiar with the thwack of the instrument.

After experimenting, it sounds more like a Khol as it has more of a wooden sound than a darbouka.

  10. Nah, this is a Khol...

    and this is a darbouka.

Not even close, and I didn't even choose a metal one that I believe was used in the OP's now deleted sound example to keep it a more fair showing.

Why not be smart and use both and maybe even with congas? If the pitches match, of course.

I am not sure, it sounds like a Darbuka... but i think it's a pitched and equalised Djembe :guru:

Since the file was gone, here is a re-upload: https://we.tl/5Mpm5zLjOM

I hear a wooden tone in it, does anyone else have the same feel?
