Where are you from? This is clearly not true, Europe was literally saturated with electonic instruments during the 80's, and was a pioneer in electronic music and dance music.

it shames me to admit i remember these guys being everywhere in the early 80s:
( Jolley & Swain i mean, not leee johns so much : ) although three e's in the first name is impressive)
a strange time for me,, i loved thomas dolby, yazoo etc. but elsewhere was saturated with this nu-disco type stuff and was mostly the place you went to find electronic sounds:

For the sake of accuracy, both of those tracks were released in 1989, so they were hardly at the forefront of any electronic music revolution, no matter how long or short lived.

I like factual articles like this  I'm going to grab hold of this album and take a closer look, I like the idea of a social album.

    I refuse.

It was not used on Billie Jean i think.

Billie Jean is live drums combined with a machine but i think its an 808.

Prince used the hell out the Linndrum. The Oberheim DMX was used on Blue Monday I belive and countlesss early rap albums. Herbie Hancock used the Fairlight extensively and I belive turned Quincy Jones and maybe even Jimmy and Terry on to it. It's amazing listening to the Fairlight and the mega impact those samples had on popular music. Human League and their use of the Dx on tracks like IMagination and Don't you wan't me, were legendary. Early 80's set the tone for the musician I would become.

Oh God!!! Please don't let this be a call for the resurgence of New Jack Swing!!!! One synth I don't see mentioned that JJ and TL used on nearly every damn track of Janet's album was the ROLAND D50.

  19. I couldn't stand to listen to any of the music sighted by anybody in this thread except for Prince, who was brilliant to me. That stuff just wasn't for me. Nobody listed INXS. I think they were kind of Pop, but I don't really know the definition of Pop except as a shortened word for popular, which they were, very. I was working on a record when Frankie Goes TO Hollywood broke with their 1st album and just had to stop because it was as if they had a spy in the studio where I was working and copped all my shit. It had the same sonic signature, groves and attitude as mine. It kinda sucked. I was totally bummed out.
