Speaking of Mud Jones avatar, the first two Sabbath albums had dry as f**k drums and Bill Ward is actually pretty funky. Last edited: Jul 2, 2020
@anonymouse Nasty ratings are even nastier when they are hit and run without an explaination. I was serious, not snarky or putting down the sound of Chad's kit. I hear so much beater and narry any low end that I can imagine using a 57 off axis and aimed close to that beater to pick up that mechanical sound. As it turns out I might be close to what was going on there. Here is what Chad favors on his kit in regards to microphone choice, the SM7A in the same family and if tuned by ear for placement could very well mimic that which I hear on that song. He is a Shure guy, so... Maybe they used a 47, a D12, an 87 or some combination to record that track, I'm not sure. Microphones HiHat = Shure SM81 Kick = Shure SM7A and Shure SM91A Overhead = Shure KSM32 Snare = Shure Beta 56A Toms = Shure SM98A How would you get that sound?
Whoops, I was serious too. Meant nasty in a good way lol! I'll change it to love it I am very familiar with the BSSM album, it's an amazing sound. I believe they used a lot of glass reflection panels with the drumrecordings?
Maybe not the dryes but definitely one of the most dirty slamming snares (from the same soundtrack, btw) :D
