I use Ghostery and AdGuard Adblocker for years works flawlessly with Chrome and Firefox.
No more waiting before YouTube videos no mre ads on facebook, etc just the content I want to see.

But now seeing this thread I'm gonna replace them with "uBlock Origin"
Even I'm thinking to switch to Vivaldi browser or maybe that Brave Browser

I am using a combo of uBlock origin + Nano Defender + Ghostery. Works pretty well with the latest firefox for me.

    Cheers!

NoScript is the most complete adblocker that I found. Problem is, it's a bit difficult to set it properly, it has so many options that no other has.

    uBlock Origin

    no arguments
.it has a wicked 'Element Zapper' mode where you can select a bunch of elements in one go while holding down shift.
i did use adblocker, works but not as many bells and whistles as aformentioned. a good second choice though.

    Ublock origin fo sho!

But... Do you Have a raspberry pie lying around?
Then you could build your own adblock server. It's called Pi-hole.
It's not a adblock filter, it's actually your own little server which manages all the internet traffic and blocks all requests from and to adservers before they reach your computer. Speeds up browsing speed a lot and saves a lot of ram since you don't need an extra extension.

I am using Ghostery for years, but since there are a lot of sites urging you to switch off your Adblocker (mainly newspapers), I think there is need for another approach.
An adblocker should not block unwanted stuff anymore, but instead filter it, by rerouting that content to its own hidden browser engine. That would make the process invisible for the ad-servers, and content that depends on successful execution of certain scripts will still be displayed.
Often ads and trackers emerge only when other ads and trackers are successfully loaded. A page where Ghostery shows, say, 12 trackers and ads blocked, can easily have about 150 if Ghostery is disabled. And that is why certain sites do not load properly with the current blocking methods.
Sometimes I try to imagine the silent war between those tracker- and ad producers, and the adblock developers. And I find this war extremely ridiculous, since an unwanted, annoying Ad or an unwanted tracker does no real good for the company it represents.
Besides, there is a sizeable amount of computing performance tneeded for the current amount of advertising on websites. To some degree, I (really don't want to) think I have upgraded my Computer to satisfy those performance demands.
