The latest version keeps timebombing randomly. I have it blocked with a firewall, it hasn't been able to get through to the website, it just shuts down at times and then I have to re-enter the serial. I have a feeling an earlier version wrote something in the registry and even though this one accepts a serial it still triggers a timebomb later. It works again for a while after you enter a new serial.

in one of the text documents in the DL pack it says you have to make a file read only to avoid this. i cant remember which file and ive deleted the files now. if you still have them read it and try it out. or maybe somebody else has them?

This thing is probably as bad as dreaded Tone2 stuff right now in terms of protection... wow.
I would rather recommend Surge (which is a freeware) or some other wavetable synth (Phase Plant maybe, this thing is probably the most advanced one right now).
You can't even resell the Serum license anymore.

I wonder about this too. For being the most iconic and widely used synth in EDM production nowadays without using a dongle as protection, it is certainly curious that the available cracks currently have issues. But I am still grateful for the people who continue to release and provide this.
And yes the policy change about license reselling wasn't customer friendly at all and made me wish someone would release big cracks of this.

Oh and check out VAST Vaporizer. They recently updated to version 3. It's a rather obscure synth and not widely known but I've heard some people talk about it as having a lot of features for a wavetable synth.

 

surge is a beautiful synth. it has been in everything i have made for the last ~10 years.
i was not looking for a WT synth necessarily, just something new to play with.

i did not like serum AT ALL, there was so much wrong with it imo that i quickly uninstalled it. i mean functional things too, not just protection problems. i ended up getting spire instead, which is much more fun to use.

i havent tried phase plant though. i might have to watch a video. not sure i should be adding another synth just yet though.

Phase Plant is almost as good, you could get by with it instead of Serum. It needs better filters (yeah, you can use wavetables for some of that, but that's a lot of extra work) and MSEGs. You can make custom LFO shapes but the editor is tedious compared to Serum's. I guess overall Serum is still faster to work with even though the sound is no longer unique.
