Hello everyone from Argentina, the question I ask myself is very simple haha;

What is the best Rhodes sound library created to date, "we can choose 2 if we want". Official sound libraries, unofficial doesn't matter. If we had to give a winner (weight doesn't matter, but quality does). I open debate.

Not the best and I don't really like to play electric piano but last time I need it in a project, I used and satisfied by:

Used "Soniccouture Canterbury Suitcase" also a lot but still come back to the electric ones in Keyscape®

 

suggest some good presets pls

 

I can get pretty much everything I need from Keyscape - the presets are generally great, and it's also a good blank canvas for getting whatever sound you need out of the clean sampled instruments.

I think it also feels like one of the most realistic to play, in terms of the way it responds.

 

I vote for Urs Wiesendanger "Rhodes Affair".

 

I like AAS Lounge Lizard and don't feel the need for something else - but I'm not super picky.

My choice is easy, as out of all the Rhodes/Mark/EPs I've tried over the years, as a package, the most deeply sampled, well-articulated, and maybe most importantly, *organic ones that I own are the Purgatory Creek Soundware line-up and Gospel Musicians Neo-Soul Keys Studio 2. Those are now the only two collections I have, and I use them constantly. Actually, besides the Mark VII Expansion, GM also *just released the Dyno Expansion yesterday, which my broke-ass grabbed up with grocery money, because between food and a new set of EPs... well, the choice is obvious.
Seriously, I can't say enough about either of them—they're inspire you to play.

P.S.: Gun to my head, if I had to choose a a PCS library, I'd go with the Mark I, with its heavy character. Thankfully, they're all cheap enough, especially bundled, so you don't have to choose. The GM suite is sell-a-kidney money, but I grabbed it on Black Friday.

Omnisphere/Keyscape - hands down.

 

Anyone who ever played a real Rhodes knows the vibration under his/her hands and the mechanical noises which are part of the "real thing experience". I owned a mid 70s Suitcase 88 MK1 many years ago and no emulation can give you that. But soundwise, I really like the Keyscape "Classic" Rhodes. For me, a big part of the sound and feeling is the release behaviour, when the tines get damped and make that kind of "settling down noise". Many libraries don't even use release samples, but Keyscape does this quite good and I really enjoy playing it.

 

Haha, that's funny to me that you mentioned that because I *almost responded to @Myfanwy that I wasn't a huge fan of Keyscape because, like so many other libraries, they don't "feel" like the real thing... least, as real as a virtual instrument via a MIDI keyboard can. In fairness, I don't own any Rhodes/Mark/Stage EP, but I've played a handful of them over the years, and the visceral feel *is half of their charm. One thing that I like about the Purgatory Creek Soundware and Gospel Musicians is that they have a pleasant and accurate *splat* in the lower keys, which is satisfying while laying down a bassline with your left hand, and is something that a lot of libraries don't seem to nail down for some reason. And I am speaking on Kontakt/VSTi instruments in an as-good-as-they-can-be manner, not in any truly comparative sense.

 

e-instruments Session Keys Electric S and e-instruments Session Keys Electric R are worth a look. Suitcase and Mark I respectively.

 

I really like Keyscape, but I also really like Lounge Lizard. It may be less authentic, but I love how you can "roll your own" ep, and make it skanky. Electric pianos are as varied and individual as regular pianos, or guitars, ir Hammond organs. There is no "best" per se, just ones that match your personal preferences the best. But there can be a consensus as to which one many people prefer and Keyscape is clearly one.

Also, might check out the old Scarbee pianos. They're for Kontakt, sound great and are small and fast loading by modern standards. I think NI released their own updated versions.

 

Rhodes made their own plugin, I never tried it but the demo sound full. I just don't know how usable it is. I think its called Rhodes 8.

I bought the UAD version that they call electric 88 I think, and it's far from the most authentic Rhodes plugin ive ever tried. But in my use case, it is exactly what I need.

 

I use Lounge Lizard when I am not using my Integra-7 and I am picky. It is a great electric piano.

 

Ouch. That definitely seems excessive to me. But if one like the sound, it might be just what they are looking for. I know I don't need it.

 

I think Rhodes got into the game so late all they had to set themselves apart was the "look how stupidly deep-sampled and big our library is!" angle.

 

I have more than a few piano libraries that're at least that large; 20GB+ is simply a matter of priorities.
