Just wondering what's everyone looking forward to add / upgrade this year? Perhaps we could have missed something better than what we're going to buy next. This is the why why this thread.. consider it as a source of info.. feel free to quote replies and make suggestions if you know something better for something with the same price.. something like that :shalom:

    okay i start with mine..
    3200g -> 3900x
    32gb ddr4 -> 128gb ddr4
+ msi gt 710 (hehe.. gpu later.. audio first)

    Happy 2021 :shalom:

Actually im really looking forward for the New gaming laptop Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 Its suppose to be coming out this year and its packing a lot of power:

    Display 15.8-inch FHD display 144Hz
    Processor AMD Ryzen 7 5800HS
    Graphics Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080
    RAM 8GB/16GB
    Storage 512GB

    Price:$2283 USD

    https://www.the-electronics.com/2021/01/asus-rog-zephyrus-g15-laptop/

I make music from time to time but gaming I would say is my main priority. I already have 3 monitors mounted to the wall which i think would be great with this laptop.

Since I had to do at least one intermediate rendering during my last mastering session, there can only be one answer: Quantum. [IMG]

I could use more RAM, but my specs are maxed. Time for a new motherboard.

No, I should really not think about this since I don't need anything but there's always something that could upgraded.

But if it comes to that, I'll guess I could rebuild a NAS, upgrade some home servers and get a couple of latest Pi's for fun. But yeah, musicwise I'm good (famous last words).

Waiting for all CES announcements at this point given lack of available current gen parts.

Would like to see the updated APU series being released to the general public. This would get around the need for a graphics card.
Definitely no plan to reward NVidia. Curious about the Intel Xe graphics cards for my current system.

Looking at ASRock Rack X570 or EPYC server motherboards for Intel 10GB, Thunderbolt 3 (on EPYC) & ECC 3200 buffered memory.

    Hackintosh (so NO AMD)
    10700k
    Z490 Vision G (D is too expansive)
    32GB RAM
    2 NVME 512GB (OSX Cat + WIN10)
    4TB HDD
Lancool 215 (because i'm an old fart loving RGB)
RX480 8GB (cheap silent and nice for CSGO and COD4 MF old school ! :bleh:)

I'm going to "cross" some spare space on each NVME.
So i can "cache" some data from each system to the other NVME.
    Like swap, primocache ...
    No performance lost

Expect the newer Ryzen APUs around spring to summer. Also Threadripper Pro will now be available through the normal retailer channels. Now (i quote hehe) this is the most serious up to this date workstation platform with 128 gen.4 pci-e lanes and up to 2tb of LR-DIMM ram. And just looking at this mobo i get the geek's shivers lol:
    https://www.servethehome.com/asus-pro-ws-wrx80e-sage-se-wifi-amd-threadripper-pro/
Nothing that money can't buy mate. By today's standards, the Ryzen 9 5950X is easily 35-80% faster than the i9 7960X shown in the video (depending the workload). One very important thing to notice here is that the i9 is Intel HEDT socket 2066 and that platform offered 44 pci-e gen.3 lanes whereas the 5950X is a normal desktop cpu which offers 24 gen.4 pci-e lanes. The catch when building a system around a Zen2+ or Zen 3 cpu is the motherboard. The X570 chipset offers 128gb ram support (ECC too) and 16 pci-e lanes, 8 of them are used for onboard USB and SATA ports and this leaves 8 gen.4 pci-e lanes to be utilized according to the mobo manufacturer's will. So, a Ryzen 5xxx cpu paired with a nice X570 mobo, will offer 40 pci-e lanes (32 of them are gen4), just a little shy from the Intel's HEDT current offering which is 48 pci-e lanes gen.3, and only 4 less than the older i9 in the video. Needless to mention here that even the upcoming -not yet released- Intel 11xxx series with Z590 mobos platform, which adds pci-e gen.4 support, will max out at either 28 or 32 pci-e lanes (20 or 24 from the cpu and 8 from the chipset, as i have foretold in another thread Intel's DMI now gives 8 lanes).
In conclusion, the current Ryzen 5xx series along with X570 mobos, is the first consumer desktop platform, that can be used as a true small workstation which can be taken to monstrous heights since it can support up to 3 gen4. pci-e x4 nvme drives out of the box without any impact on x16 graphics and with a little tinkering (which will demand putting your gpu in a x8 slot with practically no impact whatsoever in DAW apps) even eight x4 pci-e nvme drives. Needless to mention here, that if the user's projects rely heavily upon Kontakt or similar samplers, ram and storage may very well be more important than the cpu's clock and/or core count.

i'm using a cheap laptop. but think on buying a new and powerful one is out of anything i can do at least two or three years (the current one performs really good tbh). i think i will get 16gb of ram or even 32 (one stick, i saw a few on amazon and will the possible introduction of the new ram ddr5, they can get cheaper)

Gave consideration to upcoming product. Given the cost of Threadripper CPUs & quality motherboards, I am still leaning EPYC.
The full enchilada vs a beef & bean burrito at the same price or more. This will most likely change once Zen 3 EPYC is released.

As an example: A 16 core EPYC 7002 series with double the cache can be had for less than a Threadripper Pro 3955WX which is also Zen 2 based. 16/32, 3.0/3.3GHz,128MB,155W vs. 16/32,3.9/4.3,64MB,280W

The new boards along with TR Pro look promising. Pricing..well that's to be determined.
