Here is how a Listing looks:

A directory listing of the files for the Percussion Set “Ceremony” I have been putting together:

[ I’m thinking I might avoid spaces in the filenames. And ‘RedClapper’ should probably be ‘Red_Clapper’ too. ]

Tomorrow I will cover how simple command-line maneuvers can be used with this naming convention to do some really powerful sample hunting and gathering. Meanwhile please leave any comments.
    Cheers,

If you use command-line batch renaming is always a good idea to avoid spaces in the file names. Well done.
I'll check the rest later. Cheers ;)

Absolutely the sort of stuff I became aware of looking out for. Also discovered you can order the descriptors in a hierachy that makes your directory listings look real pretty - if that turns you on..

Update - I have abandoned using the "Lower, Mid, Upper" amplitude sceme to describe the loudness of the sample - it is redundant, and instead I am using the rms level (pre-normalise) to assign a crude MIDI Velocity value instead. Also using the "." as a separater for attributes in the filename screws (in Windows) with the operation of the " * " wildcard, so I am using " - " now.

I'm not sure that will help.
You will replay the sample at whatever velocity when you use it.
But then that's only if you are replaying with a sampler, not just dragging and dropping.
If you mean you are somehow back engineering the rms into a MIDI velocity, this seems a bit convoluted and I would like to know how you think it will help in a search.
Btw, if you actually get into sampling multiple velocites of hits of one percussive instrument, you are going to have to come up with some extra numbers or something in the file names.

Oh, no no, recording the aproximate level of the sample is a guide for when it comes to planning the Velocity Layers in Battery/Kontakt only. It has no significance for searches.

I have folders representing the properties :)

Anyone of you use metadata to tag samples ? Eg in AudioFinder, macOS native tags (that way you could even search in finder for samples by tag) or ADSR Sample manager ? etc..

The ADSR manager looks cool. I don't know much about metadata - I should! Thanks

Me too ! :) I work for decaded to sort my samples, but they are simply so many that it takes ages to sort them all.

What is your strategy to find samples when making music ?

My was always to presort sounds and create a kind of "sound palette" same as a painter would with his colors.
But in practice that didn't work out that well :)

I would love to have a sampler plugin where you can just zap through samples while playing to find matching samples.
Recently I used adsr sample manger for this, unfortunately it doen't seams to be very stable here under macOS.
Besides that there is no way to actually sort or move samples in ADSR Sample manager

I also tried sononym , but I don't found it that useful for my needs.

XO is quite nice but only having 8 slots is a little bit to less for my needs :)
