I'm seeing it on motherboard spec lists. Is it short for Thunderbolt? Would it be Thunderbolt 1, 2 or 3?

It says for example on the MSI Krait Z170A..... (1x TBT Connector)

Also... do you guys know if a single USB 3.1 GEN2 Type-C port will give 40Gbps speeds?

I've been reading Thunderbolt 3 now uses USB 3.1 GEN 2 ports.

Main thing though is I'd just like to know what TBT connector means.

USB 3.1 Gen1 transfer data up to 5.0 Gbps (8b/10b encoding), USB 3.1 Gen2 transfer data up to 10 Gbps (128b/132b encoding)

 

Thunderbolt 3 now uses USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports? That will open it up for PC users big time and the Apollo line from UAD should get quite a considerable boost in sales.

AFAIK, that port is only going to be useful with ThunderBolt 2 add-in cards, but I could be mistaken.

also i must add that, thunderbolt is limited to 3 meters long cables, USB 3.0 & 3.1 is limited to 3 meters for longer cables u must use KVM switches ...but there is a solution, optical cables ...

 

TBT connector is a connector that lets you connect to Throw Back Thursday content. thunderbolt tech is just a myth
