true but not the whole story besides that your post brought to my mind that the youth around 90ies and 2010 when shit begun to hit the fan assambly line wise ,did kno to value underground. Today they are (gefuehlt) going to the ZDF Fernsehgarten to hear Shirin David, the only thing missing is the rhythmic clapping...

I blame it on disco in 1979.
That was when the music really died (sorry, Don McLean...).

With every passing year we get new, unfunny members on this site.

It's a bigger problem than music not being the same as 40 years ago.

To me music died the moment the clergy started accepting polyphonic chanting inside churches. The organum was truly the downfall of music :dont:

Just another limited view of music, focusing on pop/rock and songs, "mainstream" and radio.
Who cares? Why should I listen to a short-sighted argument limited to instrument skills and perfomance? What about "classical" composers? What about acousmatic music (invented before his loved 60s and 70s), or electronic music that deliberately sounds like machines (eg Autechre)?
This guy spent decades trying to emulate old bands/sounds and now with the magic of the internet (aka "the future", uhhh the old times with letters and fax) he wants to explain why "modern music" sucks, all that without studying and undestanding at least the last 3 decades...........no thanks

A music festival where everyone is dressed in khaki with a decor uh how to put it..

In my eyes there is nothing underground here, it's a video taken from a festival where people certainly paid a lot of money for their tickets and paid even more for their substances inside.

To my eyes and ears there is nothing underground here except perhaps the rain and the mud present.

Overall, coming back to the subject I think that overall drugs have become bad , so has the general diet, if we are what we eat, if everyone is below that, isn't it normal that creativity and energy waver towards decline ?

Everything is sinusoidal, we live an off-peak period at my point of view, on certain points and exponential on others; full of new genres Hybrid explodes in electronic music for example personally it doesn't even make me goose bump, it's so conditioned and empty, that for a while while browsing on soudncloud or bandcamp I had the impression that it was always the same musician artist behind 5 - 6 songs. . hip-hop and pop are going through a turning point where the two are starting to resemble each other more and more that it's even becoming hard to say which is which, but that's more a question of taste and colors.

Overall, over the past 5 years I have discovered exceptional artists who truly do and create with their hearts and souls, and unfortunately it's drowning in the crowd, you have to dig around and sometimes even stick your hands in the shit to find treasures.

We will say that what "Works" what "Hype" at the moment and for a while does not resonate for me but certainly resonates for others, I think I'm a young old fool, but after all we only have what we feel to express our emotions. Fundamentally there is a kind of unity and an absence of experience of getting off the beaten track and letting go and that in all musical genres overall, that's my feeling and despite that we always find gold in certain rivers, or pearls in the middle of shell innards..

In short, I feel out of step and this is not new. I just hope to see a rebirth of creativity, inventiveness, innovation, letting go and real expression, in all musical genres.

it isnt good or bad, but what is promoted is quite the opposite to what was promoted 30,40,50 years ago..my uncle is ten years older than me and when I was just a child for him in the mid 80s he told me that music was shiiiit... So its a perspective and generational thing.

I think you'll find that the primary substance of choice here was LSD, of which there will have been a plentiful supply pre-arranged by the organisers (shh, don't say that in public).

Also €250 for a 7 day event is pretty good by today's standards.

As for the music, hi-tech/psycore is very niche and not to everyone's taste, mine included; I find it as psychedelic as listening to the sound of a construction site.

No, that's lyrics then and now. And I'm not sure that angsty goth stuff makes a case for anyone over the age of 12. I'll take Bicycle Race all day, every day. (The banality of that lyric was LITERALLY the point of the song, btw.) Anyway, did any of those songs crack the top ten? (I have no idea what the ding ding thing is.)

    :)

For angst, how about this one from Freddie written as he was ACTUALLY DYING.

    [Verse 1]
Empty spaces, what are we living for?
Abandoned places, I guess we know the score, on and on
Does anybody know what we are looking for?
    Another hero, another mindless crime
Behind the curtain, in the pantomime
    Hold the line
Does anybody want to take it anymore?

    [Chorus]
    The show must go on
The show must go on, yeah
    Inside my heart is breaking
    My makeup may be flaking
But my smile, still, stays on

    [Verse 2]
Whatever happens, I'll leave it all to chance
Another heartache, another failed romance, on and on
Does anybody know what we are living for?
    I guess I'm learning
    I must be warmer now
I'll soon be turning, round the corner now
    Outside the dawn is breaking
But inside in the dark I'm aching to be free

    [Chorus]
    The show must go on
    The show must go on
    Inside my heart is breaking
    My makeup may be flaking
But my smile, still, stays on

    [Bridge]
My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies
Fairy tales of yesterday, grow but never die
    I can fly, my friends

    [Chorus]
    The show must go on
    The show must go on
I'll face it with a grin
    I'm never giving in
    On with the show
