What gives this sound this quality? I'm assuming there is some reverb involved but it's dark sounding, ghostly almost, if that's a way to describe it.

Having trouble uploading directly to this site so I used zippy.

I think you have the reverb nailed, the other things I noticed was some sort of atmospheric drone and I'm guessing the notes used are either from a minor key or maybe a mode.

Sounds like Dm to me but I am a music theory noob. So I have to figure out how to make my verb sound creepy and dark like that I suppose.

If anyone want's to suggest any tips, that would be great.

I'm going out on a limb to suggest the reverb used was Eventide Black Hole.

Have a watch of this demo:-

I don't know what that means. As in D natural minor in 440 standard tuning? It's just three notes, all I know is that the D natural minor scale has those notes in it and checking Capo right now, if it's correct, says the song is in D minor. Again, music theory noob.

@Sylenth.Will.Fall I have no idea if that is what was used but I forgot how cool that thing was. I had that plug some years ago when a certain someone made it work for everyone. That pretty ended when I got to El Capitan.

I tried a few plugs already and I either suck at this or I can't find something suitable. I'll keep trying. I'll try Valhalla next.

    Thanks

    1) Low notes: I would say the stacked oscillators, lowpass filtering, unison and some drift. That, along with some filtered reverb, gives the sound its "quality".

    2) High notes: I would say the lowpassed unisoned saws + noise and the key-tracked high-res bandpass filter (maybe with some fast Sn'H LFO on pitch) to get that ringy sound, through a filtered reverb, gives the sound its "quality".
