Depending on the quality of your source material, you could apply some exciters (track or master). Apart from that, the usual or no FX on your master, except DRC, because they're probably already DRC'd.

No effect on the master is the best effect.

Concentrate on the individual channels and subgroups instead.

if you are working with professional records just a limiter to prevent clipping

I'm using just a simple clipper plugin set at -0.5dBFS on the output to protect the equipment from audio bursts. Plugins can often give you those.

I aways use a limiter without any gain... And, if i'm working with vocals, a SSL compressor with very subtle settings automated to work just when the vocals come in and disappear when the vocals get out...
Beside it i use eq on individual tracks, but always automated, the idea is when the track is playing solo it don't need any effect...

Are these mashups of already released tracks or your own? If you are just mixing commercial tracks then there's no need for anything on the master at all because they're already mixed and mastered. If you're doing your own tracks then I would say just a compressor, EQ and limiter will do the job. The compressor with a 2:1 ratio, slow attack, medium/slow release to keep the volumes even, an EQ to give all the tracks a similar feel, and then a limiter to make sure nothing clips

Always several instances of salt and pepper when doing mashups

i can Suggest something, put both tracks @-6dB then use L3-LL Ultra Stereo from Waves and put threshold from -3dB to -6dB depending on the quality and how it sounds dunno but you should experience with that, maybe Fabfilter MB too, i have no idea but you should try these !

I do the same like Mr Lyann Music and I can recommend it, but I am using Waves L316 instead. :)

Always use dblue glitch and sonic charge permut8 on the master. Especially to mash stuff up.
