what do you think of these companies - are their plugins useful as other compressors or EQs?
try for example Izotope Ozone or something - are these plugs really the leading ones or are there some good DAW native plugins or some others that can do their job as well or even better?

share your expereience & like :thanks::welcome::goodpost:

Billie Eilish blew up with nothing but Logic Pro X and stock plugins... so do you NEED plugins from companies like Waves to make hits? No, but it sure makes things far easier. She recorded all her vocals on an AT2020 (https://www.soundonsound.com/people/billie-eilish) and apart from Spectrasonics 3 plugins the rest is all stock Logic. Speaks volumes really, even though I dont like her music.

Waves, by far and away, are my favorite plugin developers right now. So many must haves from them that I just cant do without. IzoTope hasnt done anything impressive, even getting their plugins free from the sister site, I still dont think theyre all that good.... apart from stuff like IzoTope RX.

I haven't really tried much of the stuff you mentioned, but izotope RX is pretty cool indeed

If they make something I want to use I use it and if they don't make something I don't want to use I don't use it. Wait, that's not right.

I've come to appreciate Waves, only because their bundle covers most of my needs and I don't have to spend so much time on the sister site in case of system re-install.

It's all fun and games until the Waves detectives makes a surprise visit to my studio I guess.

stutter edit ( still one of THE macros )PPL who just use presets without diving in must use it very slightly )

true stutter edit is another good one, trash is interesting too but some presets go hard on my CPU
izotope has teamed up with ex-lexicon developers from exponential audio and their reverbs are on sale for like $10 its pretty insane and the closest you can get to lexicon PCM for that price

If they DO make something I DON"T want to use I DON'T use it. That's right.
Anyway I don't use anything from Waves these days apart from Maserati GRP. I like that thing. And some of the Abbey Road stuff now and then.

I remember the rumors back in the day that waves stuff added watermarks to everything you put the plugins on. LOL good times.

Since every major studio has them and everyone uses them but pretends they don't I'd imagine that watermark is more common than a Taylor Swift song at an all girls Catholic school.

  19. They used to be expensive. And expensive gear is the best gear. I now pay far too much for much more expensive plugins that do almost nothing. But I feel superior to the rest of you. Plus I'm The Pope.

Everyone likes waves cuz the sheer number of plugs they make (100-200), there's something for everyone, if you don't like their EQ or compressor there's 19 more to try. Also marketing & celeb power. Izotope isn't very sexy, they have a completely different philosophy & they're more sensible, so out of their limited current lineup (10-30) they only have a few EQs & compressors. But anyway, you can generally fill most of your needs using stock plugs, and with less CPU if you use stock plugs if your DAW is good.
