Yo Audiosexuals, Out of interest, what styles of music do you make with your DAW ? Im pretty much hooked on Electronic Dance Music and to be honest its pretty much all i have listened to in the last 23 years or so and its a big part of my life,so naturally its what i have been learning to make for the last 2years(much more time in the last yr)....Obviously ive listened and played many different styles of it over the years but indeed i am allergic to Pop,RnB,chart music etc as its just not compatible with my ears! *yes* No offence intended to those that like more mainstream, maybe you would rather cut your ears off than listen to some tech house! :break:

So my answer is mainly Tech house,Tribal house. What yours ??? :dancing:

in my case the question should be what R your flavours? ...Rock, metal (thrash, death, grind) and tekno (hardtek, hardkore)..that's what I do when I have some free time to spend with my DAW *yes*

OK.. what I do is not listed. Honest.
    New classical? Classical/folk/country/soft-rock? don't know.
I asked friends how they would "tag" my music and no-one came out with a clear answer.
Can you? You would do me a big favor if you did.
It is all here, should you be interested... http://soundcloud.com/moosegarage

yeah but what do you do mostly?....pornogrind...polka....obscure satanic noisecore?? :grooves:

studios usually earn their reputation with one genre of music...unless they are small ones, in which case they take whatever comes their way...

Correction, it's the small studio's with a fixed staff that lean towards a certain genre. A larger more established one with multiple rooms and studio's take on any project a certain producer wants to pay for.Such as Sony, Abby Road, Ocean way etc, etc... the projects change every couple of months. In the course of the last 20 years I have worked all over and I have never seen a studio say no to an Artist or Producer based upon his or hers style of music.Saying no due to reasons such as work ethics and over all bad habits (breaking gear and such) now that is another story. Now to keep this post on topic, I myself tend to lean towards Acid jazz and Trip Hop when I have some time off.

OK thanks for correcting me then!.... studios like Sony, Abby Road are clearly at the top of the game for sure, so if that's what you mean by big, now I understand!...but what about places like Morrisound Recording in Florida, just to mention one?? ...reputation-wise it cant be really called a small studio...cuz its bloody famous!...they might record other things than death metal once and a while but most of their work is based on metal music (and bands breaking gear!!) anyway. Do you consider it's a small studio by your standards? :guitarhero:

[sorry to be a bit off-topic but I'm curious!]

Whatever happens to come out of my head and fingers at 2 in the morning after drinking way too much coffee... sometimes a dirty overblown garage blues, sometimes a really empty kind of destroyed soundscape, sometimes a funky tribal groove, sometimes an acoustic alt bluegrass sound. Sometimes total crap. I just like to make interesting noises, it's not really to share with others at this point, just stuff that makes me happy

I look at it like this, if i am am looking for an all in one shop, I go to Walmart, but of I want real good meat i go to the best Butcher i can find. The same goes for studio's and it's not even uncommon for a larger studio to rent out a smaller studio's room just for that very reason, but of course once it's all said and done no one is the wiser. All they see is whatever logo is on the C.D. BTW lysergyk, we are guilty of hijacking this thread, so lets keep this to a PM status from now on.Sorry to the O.P.and to the site admin for doing that.

Music is easy, start with silence and add to the parts you do not like. :bleh:

Here there & every bloody where
I don`t have a specific Genre That I like to produce, as I like to keep this open minded.
Progressive,Minimal & Funky House,Techno,Trance, 4x4 Basslines, Dubstep, Garage, DnB, Ambient.
By having a wider choice of Genre`s has helped me at times when I get an odd day when ideas are not flowing so well through my head. By switching to another Genre has helped me to come up with something else.

MrGold as soon as I read this thread I thought controversy!!! Lol.....I'm similar with the electronic side of music at least since the early 90's. I grew up on AC/DC and Metallica and such stuff, but when I got talked into going to a club in Dalston East London called Labrynth in 1991 that was me hooked...Anyway, I too can't stand the pop charts but having said that since I started producing myself I have a certain admiration for any piece of music however shit it may be. My main aims are DnB and Housey tunes when I produce, I'll leave it at Housey as another thing I can't stand is these arguements over genres it is what it is!!!!!!......Audiosexuals Lol

whatever i end up with just about sums it up. I've tried a coupla times to consciously make a style. But...no discipline, no attention span, woot that works.

Always happy to be controversial
I must admit,im surprised i missed progressive, electro and trance out but i couldnt write all styles,oh and disco etc but only had 20 options .I like most forms of electronic if well made.Allergic to speed garage and certainley modern day kiddy pop trance...wer wer weeerrr weeeeeerrrr style and super fast happy hardcore/gabber style etc but im getting on a bit. :bleh:
Dare i say i like more serious electronic music :bleh: :dancing:
Used to dj drum and bass a long time ago and jungle before that but have never tried to make drum n bass as i just go for what i dj with at the minute as i know what sort of things have impact to certain crowds etc.
I can appreciate a lot of music if well done but thats not to say i like or would buy it *no*
My 1st tracks where a bit of whatever i ended up with (always electronic dance of some form) but now im getting more skillful i try and stick to a game plan :grooves:

    Interesting poll.

Well, it may be the uncoolest thing to admit on this forum, but I make pop and rock music.
    Yes, even ballads :wow:

I can't really understand this huge seperation of "modern" musical stlyes...
I mean, how many different kind of electronic music, or metal exist... WTF
Just because one uses a slightly different beat, or slightly different pad sounds, it gets a new name immediately.

Think about how many different pieces of music, spanning hundreds of years, you just call "classical music"?
    Sorry for off topic

    @ JayAr

Why you just don't choose the last option?
Good music needs no categories, never.

Hey bro,its certainly not uncool. You actually have more chance of making good money if you hit it big with a pop track!lol. We are all different and thats what makes the world go around. This is why i started the poll out of interest.
Very true about genres and old stuff being ''classical'' but we live in a world of more styles now. Some music does have stupid labels and should be classed under one bigger umbrella but in general im in to electronic big time so i can separate the genres of it.You could play me 10 different types of metal and 6 of them would probably sound the same as thats the case with music you are not in to. Certainly not off topic with your comments as this is part of the debate i wanted rather than just a tick in the poll

Didn't choose the last option because I know exactly where I'm going when I make music.. just don't know how to call it

By the way.. thank you for the connection to "good music"... :mates:

Nothing wrong with Pop music, after all POP is short for popular.
