Hey boss doggies - I was thinking about this yesterday when I saw the frei:raum plugin on sister site. It got me to wondering about what other super rad plugins exist that I don't know about. I am talking about hi-tech stuff like Soundradix SurferEQ and Sooth by Oeksound. Shit that exists as software only...

What are your favorites?

 

The most non-conventional plugin in my workflow nowadays is Smart:EQ+ by Sonible.

 

I don't know about hi tech but Permut8 doesn't get nearly the respect it deserves. Delay, bitcrusher, buffer/glitch effect... all in just the main firmware bank... all with really deep control

close enough to gross beat, and great creative possibilities

 

Its "intelligent" algorhythm helps me shape a sound fast and efficiently. It doesn't work on all sources, but when it does, it makes a track sit well in a mix. A lot of times it unclutters elements like synths or guitar textures. It can also sit on the mix bus, just one or two db. However, if abused, this plugin can add a weird flavor to the whole song, but sparsely, I always use it in every mix.

MyKazoo by g200kg might fit well in here. It turns anything you steer through it to sound like a __________.

I'm not 100% sure about how to define a non-conventional plugin, but for me 2 come to mind..... Zplane's amazing Vielklang because of the tuning quality and harmony abilities with a different workflow and Acustica Audio's Nebula because of the unique advanced IR tech approach.

 

Echobode from sonic charge

 

Sonic Charge getting a lot of love in here. Maybe I need to give Echobode a shot. Their drum synth looks nice too, but I like Live's drum rack too much to work with a multitimbral drum machine. Just makes things too clunky
