    I made a bootleg mix of this to play on my sets 24-25 yrs ago lol. I remember it like it's now. Shalamar was one of these disco/rnb/soul bands with such great vocals and superb basslines. I remember i had to replay the bassline on top of theirs and took me a day, although i was well versed in playing bass,gtr and keys. My rig was Emulator III, Roland TR-909, JV1080, JD800, JD990, MC50 mkII sequencer and Korg MS20 with Kenton midi retrofit, Soundcraft Ghost, Ensoniq DP4 Multi FX, Roland SDE-1000 delay. No comp for those mixes. Only for the final master. I recall of these times with great fondness. Thnx for reminding bro.
    All the best :)

    Feel the love in this post, thank you! Those were musical, magical times, would love to see that postivity returned to the music scene <3 What a fabulous rig you had, I also ran the jd800 with an mc50 :mates:

    ..and now the $64,000 question... do you still have that mix?? buried on a dat hopefully? would love to hear :D

    Did you ever release it? ..or did you keep it for your own sets (God, miss those days!!)- Too bad TonyG isn't still around, he was a powerhouse in the early 80s east coast r&b scene-

    Be good friend!
    [IMG] enjoy the day!

    @Legotron and @electriclash
    That was made on 1997. I have the old master on a back up drive. Lemme give you a mix components' rundown as i recall it. The whole idea was based on a 2 bar loop that was from the breakdown of the original song, i thought it could carry the track being infectious on repeat and such haha... I liked the fact that it didn't appear anywhere else in the song but the breakdown so you don't get what track is on while the intro is building. That was typical of me back then :)
    The open hihat is from JD990 lol. The kick is 909 through a DL251 Drawmer Compressor. Claps are a mixture of 909 and JV1080's Dance expansion. The bass is a patch of mine on JD800 slightly doubled with a pick bass patch from JV1080. The additional strings are a blend of JD990 and JV1080 and the weird resonant lead melody is a patch i made on the JD990 doubled with MS20 through the Roland Delay. I loved the Super JD for its 8 discrete outputs. The scarce hits are from JD800 but re-sampled and filtered in the Emulator. All sample loops where recorded straight to the Emulator III from vinyl through a late 80's Numark mixer, SL1200mkII with Stanton 880 cartridges.
    I never considered it one of my better mixes so i didn't think of releasing it although i loved its "raw" sound. It was supposed to fit in the mix with another remix of mine so the first 2 mins are quite empty, just building up. I used to call this "style" of mine hard disco. I had this equal love for old school rap and rnb as for house and its derivatives and i was trying to "meld" it all in one. I was pursuing a harder banging house sound blended with melodic choruses. The experiment was so and so imho. Some domestic dj friends did like it and played my bootleg but that was it. I kept it just for me and my friends. Lemme share it on one of my gdrives. Let's see if you like it. Hope you guys are not too harsh heheh.
    Cheers mates.
    PS: Listening to it again, fek thats a loud upfront bass lol.
