This may seem funny to you, but it is one of the questions that I could never find a convincing answer to.

Suppose you have selected a note or a chord as a starting point. On what basis do you choose the next notes or chords till the end? And how can you justify your basis and explain it completely?

If you can help us solve this problem, I would really appreciate it.:mates:

The notes don't really matter if you cannot play them correctly anyway.

Before you can play them correctly, you have to put them together correctly first.

I just want to know the order of their placement. How do you put them together?:guru:

don`t know if got your question right.
as far as i understand music creation it is a matter of which scale you choose. the language/mood so to say. from this decision you have to use the chords and notes within that scale. basicly, you are free within that scale to order them as you like or feel.

this can depent on your mood , experimenting with sounds or simply random choice. or anything else. it`s not a specific decision every time.
    perhaps this
    can give you some insights.

Do you mean that an internal force (which is not much under our control) orders us to choose the notes?

To get the answer to this question you must channel the correct spirit.

I do not know, I am not a neuroscientist. So, I do not have a clear definition. :dunno:
But one can of course ramble headless about all kinds of stuff if he likes.

Sure, there are all kinds of composition methods. But "how to create a song" was not the question.
It was "how to make a decision". What note to chose next, or what stroke to chose next on a picture is not relevant in this regard.

The mental state of people is different. For example, someone who genetically has an extravert personality tends to one type of chords and someone who is genetically an angry or kind etc. person to another type of chords?:dunno:

If notes and chords are to be chosen based on people's moods, then why do people go to music colleges to learn everything? Because in the end, people's moods will overcome their education.

Music is the answer. If that's not convincing enough, you may very well find another hobby

Pick a scale, drop it into a dummy midi track, then drag the midi notes of that scale to 8 or 16 bars.
Open a keyboard, synth or piano vst under the dummy scale track.

Write chords with your vst of choice using the midi scale highlighted in the backgroud if you daw shows other midi notes in the same sequence of other midi tracks while you write into the same pattern.

It's kind of like tracing if you're an artist, to get a basic barebones structure down to add details to later, until you can draw on your own. Hope that helps.

Depends on what you're trying to do (why do i have the feeling i've said that many times before?). If you want to go full methodical there's a bunch of theory explaining that, from typical chord successions on different styles to the interactions that happen note by note that can help you choose your own chord progression. Basically you're asking for an entire course (at least) woth of information.

Or you know, trial and error. Nothing wrong with that.

This is a good answer, but people are the factors that make music. My question is exactly how the selection of notes in music happens to make a piece of music?
