@Spyfxmk2 You have nothing to apologize for.

Please don't bail out just 'cuz someone chooses to take a negative view of your interpretation of the subject at hand.

This is a GOOD thread. Your input is every bit as valid as that of anyone else.

    And quite possibly more so.

Stick around and lets keep this alive and positive.

    @lasteno:

Please don't pull this thread down. It is good and constructive (and fun) to see and share each others foibles. It helps us all to feel not so alone as we sometimes struggle with the reality of what we want to accomplish vs what we end up with.

We are all separate individual beings, with our own opinions. Anything that helps us to unite gives us strength.

Anything that pulls us apart serves no useful purpose.

My advice is when you get so far in a project, always finish what you've started, even if you don't like it as much as you wanted to. Let out what's inside, whatever it is, and move on. I remember an old long distance track athlete saying even if he was losing badly in a race, he never pulled out unless through injury because when you've done it once it's easy to do time and again.
But of course, be prepared to hit delete at an early stage if you know it's a junker. It's a balancing act.

It's a double edged sword. I too am OC when it comes to recording and composing, but you always end up with a great result, even though it took way longer than most others to do.

Normally when I open my DAW I already know which kind of session I will start, mostly it depends by how much time I have available on that moment. If I know I have half hour I am not going to try to start and finishing a song, but rather playing with my bass to have the perfect bass sound, that I will save and use in my next song. If I know I can spend 2-3 hours on the session I will start to make a song...and trying to finish it! My main problem at that point is to concentrate to an instrument at the time, like start and finish drum, then start and finish bass etc...many time i am doing the piano part and I find my self editing the bass arrangement....

Nobody is perfect so we all have our own strenghts and weaknesses. That's normal. Doing collabs with other people is a great way to improve yourself on your weakest points for instance.

Anyway, sometimes I find it hard to make percussions or drums that works with the melody or just with the track. I would not say they are bad, but most of the time they just have a different rhythm whereby it could be totally out of key with the melody or melodies.

Sometimes my counter melodies are out of key with the main melody aswell. Therefore I am also wondering forever if all your counter melodies have to be in the same key of your main melody to work great together?

Creativity and inspiration are no issues for me I think. Making counter melodies, drums and percussions all in key is sometimes hard for me.

to keep focused and pre-plan projects, leaving the damocles sword of "spontaneity" behind.

working on it though, both musically and as a person.

i know that situation. not to be sarcastic, maybe they are finished? finished at your hands at least
maybe someone who you trust has what it takes to make it see the light of day?

i have tried dropping stuff that hangs there for over a certain period of time, either I recognise it is what it is and will not get better and "finish" or give it to someone else to finish
