I never used them... maybe they are a time saver if used for some "standardized" EM compositions or some orchestral stuff, but for recording a band or composing a song in a traditional way with traditional instruments, You setup every session according to the actual situation and to Your needs.

Of course, if You record the same band over and over, and use mostly the same plugins on the same channels, than, creating Your own templates becomes very useful... but to use someone else templates seems a bit strange to me.

Using templates actually kills Your creativity in a certain way... at least in my opinion...
Many times by setting up Your session You come up with some new ideas, You try different things, and actually You end up building Your experience.

The situation where I find they could be useful is when You compose in a collaboration with someone, and You agree on using certain workflow, so that it becomes easy to exchange and combine projects, but that of course limits Your creativity in a certain way I think ?!? (like all collab. do)

Anyway, I agree, there are certain situations where they can be useful, but that is not "my cup of tea"... I prefere to do it my way, not using someone`s else ideas.

I`d like to here other musicians thoughts on this matter; always open to here others points of view

One of the more overly simplistic explanations I have ever seen. "You could be very successful..." :rofl:I use templates sometimes. Nice to have tracks already labeled. They are just pre-set ups for different styles of recording "sessions". The ones in PreSonus StudioOne are very convenient. For instance, the way your tracks are set up and labeled to record a live rock band are not the same for an all synth/keyboards and MIDI session.

    That was funny!!!
    Stupid, but funny.

Sure, templates can work wonders and save time. In my software of choice I can load templates into templates, which not many other DAWs can, and that is just sweet.

I agree with these guys, to me templates are used to save time. like track state or synth config, or mix routing. that's my big one, mix routing.

if you've built a whole song admin, well thats a song.

baxter, I was just talking to cav about 'templates inside of templates'. both of my daws of choice have this function. and quite extensively able to sub-route from almost anywhere inside a channel or automation. yes it is sweet to set up a synth that's part brand A, brand B, and part brand C. or a drum kit that's automatically reinforced by additional hits (with their own routing and disposition). just awesome

Basic templates are ok that get you ready to compose/record faster, but I also find chains very useful as many senarios tend to be repetitive.

I also have some song form templates, with various verse chorus setups which can be quite useful.

At first I thought it was a joke, but they have a site!!

Judging for the master level of the video the templates sure are humunguous useful!!

I'm fine with the templates that come with the DAW (S1 in my case)

@admin - You're registered for more than two years on this site, yet you never contributed with anything, other than constantly promoting your website and advertising DAW templates, sometimes you also call them free, which they're not. :dunno:
While self-promotion is welcomed, advertising seeking commercial & financial gain are questionable ethics on free forum. Please do consider it next time you make such thread.

My template is just 8 summing groups of 8x2 instrument tracks, one summing group of 16 sends and one summing group of couple of pre-mastering auxes (which I use only for my own reference, this group is getting bypassed before final bounce). I always tend to group this way when I used to start blank so I rather start from this template :)
